Hi, all!

I posted this query the other day, but then deleted it as I thought we were flying with a different airline. Our plans have changed again, so now I find myself feeling silly and reposting!

We are flying to Singapore in J from Manchester via Frankfurt. The first leg is with Lufthansa. Can we credit the main trip with SQ (FRA to SIN) and the return SQ portion to VS FC? Many thanks :)

Yes you can. If you login to your booking on the SQ website (or give them your Flying Club card/number when checking in) they will add it to your booking. You can always claim for it retroactively as an alternative.

Thank you so much, Slimpy! I was just worried because it would have to be booked through Lufthansa to take advantage of the good fare. Much appreciated :)

Mini update on this just in case this rather specific set of circumstances ends up applying to anyone else. So, our trip was booked for us by a travel agent and I can't add our FC number on the LH website as their system doesn't support it, but I also can't add it on the Singapore website because their website won't save any details at all when I put them in, it just tells me there's an error (probably because the flight doesn't originate with them?) So I will try showing our FC cards to the LH check in agents (unlikely this will do anything on the way out) and the SQ check in agents on the way back. I'll also retain the boarding passes in case it's possible to retroactively apply for the miles. It would be 250 TP for us for the round trip, which would help to renew my OH's AU status and put me on the right track as mine just reset to 0, so I hope it can be done. But at the end of the day we got an excellent deal (roughly £2,000 PP to SIN in J, so if it doesn't happen I will try to be zen about it :)

Show your cards at the SQ desk when you get to FRA and they should be able to add it to the SQ part of the bookings.

I have an email from SQ Customer support dated Aug 20 and they have advised me I can tell them my FC number at Check In and they will log it on their system or I could do it online using my Booking Ref. I Did book via SQ on the phone so not sure if that makes a difference but at least the email advice suggested I could do it at the Desk as an option.

Having been a victim of SQs IT system, and using VS' IT system, Virgin's IT system wins hands down :) SQ were great at the airport, and onboard, but their website is one of the worst I have ever experienced and their phone support is worthless - my advice is don't trust a word, double check everything, and print everything out and take it to the airport.

I mean, Airlines are known for their amazing IT departments right.........

Haha! Yes, IT systems for airlines are bizarrely awful. You'd think with how much money people are spending they'd be more concerned with getting it right. Thank you all so much for the input, I will approach the SQ desk in FRA with our membership cards and numbers :) I really appreciate the advice. I'll let you know how I got on afterwards!

Ok, we are actually in MUN for our outbound layover (it's FRA on the way back!) I asked the Lufthansa agent here and she was very helpful and it took her mere seconds to input our FC numbers. Obviously we'll still hang on to the boarding passes just in case :) If and when things credit I'll let you know in case anyone else ends up in a similar scenario. Thanks again to tonty for the suggestion.

If I can jump on this post, I have a similar situation. I'm booked through Swiss Air return LHR-SIN via ZRH, also to take advantage of some pretty good business class deals. The SIN-ZRH legs are a code share on SQ. The Swiss Air or Lufthansa web sites only allow you to add a Star Alliance number. The SQ website doesn't allow you to add any number as you are not booked through them. So I emailed Singapore Reservations with my FC number and they added it to the reservation within 24 hours.

Also, not strictly to do with VA, but when you make a booking through Swiss, you can't reserve your seats on the SQ code share. However again a quick email to Singapore Reservations sorted that out. :D
