How far did you click through because more often than not the cheap fare just disappears once the search has been updated and you move onto the next stage of the booking process.

It depends how often the search website updates its searches as the results can remain cached for some time.

I booked a flight via gotogate a couple of years ago when I had to fly to South Africa at very short notice (i.e. the very next day). The outcome was fine but the procedure was complicated. Once I had clicked "Buy" there then came a whole lot of add-ons a la Ryanair, none of which were necessary but would lull an inexperienced person into paying. These included sitting together and cancellation protection (not to be confused with insurance) which kicked you up into a higher fare bucket. I ignored them all. I was then given a number and told my ticket would be sent the next day. That bit was unsettling as the number wasn't a PNR or a ticket number and the following day I was having to travel to the airport. The ticket came through just as I was leaving but it still didn't look like an airline booking so I printed off the lot.
I arrived at the airport with a mini-novel of paper only to have it waved away by the check-in agent who merely demanded my passport - which is my usual approach to check-in

Please do not book a ticket with Gotogate!! They are a very, very, shonky third party booking site. I often visit the Trip Advisor Air Travel forum and it is awash with complaints from people who have booked with them and had dreadful problems....usually prices are a lot higher as they are not "live" or their tickets are cancelled. You are also putting another layer between yourself and Virgin which is never a good idea. You might want to visit Trip Advisor and just read a few of the posts about Gotogate.

Where are you going?

Delta One is a perfectly good business class product and travelling via DUB means you pre-clear US immigration there, which saves time at the other end. So if DL/AC are offering a decent fare via DUB I’d go for it.

Yes, Delta codeshare with AF/KL as they’re all part of the SkyTeam alliance. You’re fine booking with them.

I would personally go via ATL unless you really want to stop over in NY.

The A330s DL operate from DUB to ATL are nicer than the old 767s they use to JFK, ATL is a far nicer and easier airport to connect through than JFK, and there’s more or less an hourly shuttle from ATL-MCO so it’s a very smooth connection.

Like most business class cabins, Delta One is really configured for solo travellers and pairs rather than families.

I’d be tempted to book a window seat and a middle pair.

Even though what I said turned out to be OK , I'd go along with everyone else's advice about not booking them. I've been a member of travel forums since 1998 and of V-flyer since 2004. My circumstances in booking gotogate were extreme and one I would have not taken in normal circumstances. The situation was that my brother and his wife in South Africa had celebrated their golden wedding on Easter Sunday of that year and family members had gone over to celebrate it including his daughter who lives in Dublin. (I had gone earlier knowing I had to work on Easter Sunday) They returned after Easter week and I flew out the same week to Chicago and when there learned that my sister-in-law was very ill. I flew back in to Dublin a few days later and on the train from Dublin to Cork learned that my she had passed away and I knew that I had to return the next day and bring my niece with me. Given that the major airlines were asking for silly money in economy for a next day departure, I threw myself on the mercy of kayak and skyscanner. gotogate was what was thrown up and at that stage, beggars can't be choosers and I threw myself on the mercy of them.

The negatives: The uncertainty surrounding the booking procedures. I was never really sure I was booked - especially when they were giving numbers which didn't really correlate to any recognised numbers such as PNRs especially as I still had to travel back to Dublin. It was scary! The add-ons suggested which put Ryanair in the halfpenny league. Baggage, sitting together, cancellation (which in effect was a higher bucket). Having to print off a sheet of paper not knowing which is your PNR (in spite of being an experienced traveller)

The positives: Arriving in DUB with a sheaf of paper and having it waved and asking just for passports.

After that all the negatives disappeared and for the rest of the trips you must read them in Trip Reports but they no longer refer to gotogate. Even on the return.
