OK, in brief: My OH has an AMEX and we want to transfer points to his FC account so we can secure reward seats this week. However, his old FC number is on the account as the last time we did this was probably before the introduction of the new numbers. He tried to add a new account number and the website for the last few days just gives us the message "this action cannot be performed at this time, sorry for the inconvenience." Are the old account numbers still linked to the current ones? We need to make a fairly substantial transfer so we don't want the points disappearing into the ether! I'm also wondering if he can edit the old account number somehow.

Thanks :)

I seem to remember either phoning AmEx or online chatting with them to get them to update my Flying Club number when it changed.

You would need to confirm with Flying Club if the old format numbers are still linked to the new number format. I personally wouldn't risk it as it's been nearly 2 years now since VS changed the number format.

Hi
Had the same problem myself this week. Just give Amex a ring and they can update the number and do the transfer for you and the same time. My miles were in my virgin account in less than 30 mins! Good luck!

Well, it transpired that my OH had already input his new FC number into the system, so this was a total non issue! We now have our UC seats secured for our usual West Coast business trip next year; we're flying from MAN to LAS, then just over two weeks later flying out of LAX back to MAN :)
