VS Interline baggage agreements

Hello all,

I’m in the process of booking a return with VS from the UK to South Africa for next summer via Skyscanner, connecting in JNB to VFA and then return from CPT via JNB.

Does somebody more knowledgable than me know whether VS has an interline baggage agreement with Kulula/ Comair?The connecting flights I’m looking at both have a BA flight number. I just want to know whether I’m going to be able to tag my bags all the way and can just go through flight connections at JNB or whether I’m going to need to clear immigration and collect the bags to re check them in...

Any advice greatfully received.

VS definitely interlines with BA. Have done a few ex DUBs originating on BA at DUB and transferring to VS at LHR on a single booking with bags through checked,

I've always had to reclaim and re-check bags in JNB with an onward flight to DUR even when on a through ticket. It's much like claiming bags in the USA as there is a re-check area just before you exit the Customs area.

With regard to Kulula, I had to reclaim at JNB and recheck even though my flight had a BA flight number when returning from DUR. It is a low-cost airline and does not interline.

The whole itinerary is on one ticket so I guess I’ll be covered with the connections if there are any delays.
I’ve got about a 3.5hr connection at JNB on both legs so I’m sure that will be plenty of time to recheck bags, even with a bit of a delay.

It's not a problem in either direction. In JNB when you arrive from the UK and have gone through Immigration and collected your bag make your way towards the exit and to the left you will see a small check-in area with desks for the various airlines. Once you have checked in there, go through the exit to the main door and studiously ignore all the people offering to escort you to where you are going. Some of them can be incredibly persistent! Go up the escalator to the departure area and keep on walking in the same direction you have been going since leaving Immigration. Security and the gates are at the far end of the terminal.

On your return, collect your bags and follow the signs for International Departures. It's very straightforward. Once you've past the area where there are a lot of eateries, the check-in area is to the right. It's not very visible at first as there is a wall separating it from that area. You will see what I mean when you get there. There are several entrances and you will see the VS desk quite clearly. From there you will go through security and passport control and be in the main shopping area.
