Hi All,
I booked a miles redemption flight for 2 adults and 1 child in Premium from Belfast to Orlando for £404 one way

I looked today, for later next year, and London to Miami for 2 adults and 1 child in Premium is £1068

Why such a difference? I understand ex Dublin is cheaper as well, its a different country, but surely there cant be such a difference between Belfast and London?

There are three elements

London to MIA will include APD on the ex LHR legs for all 3 of you so £ 172 each. There is no APD on ex Belfast long haul flights. So that is £516 of the £664 difference

Then of the remaining £ 148

LHR airport fees are higher than Belfast. Could also be a difference in fees charged MCO and MIA

Then there are the VS carrier surcharges. I make the likely assumption that these are also higher ex LHR then ec Belfast.

Would be helpful if you could post a breakdown of each fare for a more specific answer

So, from Dublin, VS and BA are competing with direct flights from DUB.

So to offer an alternative to what is often a direct flight, you reduce your price. KLM do the same: check ex AMS fares compared to exUK on KLM.

The result is cheaper flights so if you are willing to do the whole ex DUB thing you can save a fortune.

As they say, everyday is a school day. I didn’t know that. Shame Belfast International doesn’t have more long haul flights. It’s a truest awful airport!
