Hey all

So the time finally came around to have flights for Orlando 2019 @ Halloween released over the past few days...and what a back and forth few days it's been.

Original plan was to fly into MCO from LGW but that route has proven just far too expensive for us. So i got to thinking and thought well lets see how MIA compares and if the saving is reasonable we'll just have to put up with the drive the other side...low and behold same dates, villa, attraction tickets etc but just going into MIA rather than MCO meant a 16,000 saving so we've taken it. Obviously we maintained Upper Class flights and according to the agents that's where all the money is saved...

I guess using the 747 on the MCO route means they really can sell the UC cabin at premium numbers and with the increased seats on the MIA route they can be more aggressive. Anyway for me it's a great holiday still, UC is maintained but just got to put up with a 4 hour commute when we land...i can stomach that when saving 16k.

Has anyone done this same thing before?

Thanks

Shane

Yes, many times. There was a thread just on it a few days ago. I mainly fly into Miami as I live close to LHR, prefer LHR, prefer the aircraft and at the moment, prefer MIA to MCO.

We book a night on South Beach and get an Uber to Sixt on South Beach the following morning. Got a decent Mercedes GLS with them. Last month, the drive to Orlando (Universal area) was only about 3 hours. It did take about 4.5 on the way back to the airport though.

£16,000 seems like a hell of a saving and I would suggest you’re looking at inflated prices because they’ve just been released. An UC return into MCO at that time of year would normally be £1,700 per person. There are dates over Halloween at £2,500 already but they’ll come down in the next sale and over the next few months. Miami is normally more expensive.

Yep we prefer LHR given that we’re in South Oxfordshire.

Love the 747 but not enough for me to be insistent on using it.

Sat Nav says it’s about 3.5 hours airport to villa and so if we land on time, break the journey up with dinner half way it’ll not feel to bad at all.

I’m just looking forward to VS UC and being back in Orlando with the family

I don't know what time you land, but we have got in the habit of travelling the day before and staying at an airport hotel the first night then taking a leisurely drive to our rental the next day. We have a five or six hour drive up to South Carolina depending on which airport we use.
We usually fly into Orlando but this year couldn't get any reward seats so it's Atlanta and a shorter drive.

I’m seeing a similar thing. For a family of five from Man to Mco I’m getting £3800 however if I do Lhr to Mia on the same dates I’m getting £1800. Both flights based on economy classic and are around Halloween time.
I expect the Man to Mco to come down but can’t help thinking the Miami price is too good to miss.

I’ve just had an email from Flying Club saying the winter sale is now on, so worth checking again in case fares have come down.

Is this the earliest winter sale ever? I’m sure it used to start around the 22nd or 23rd ...

The mco flight I was watching came down from £3.8k to £3.4k (family of 5 in econ) and the Miami route down by a further hundred. Booked the Miami as it’s too good a price to ignore.

We’ve been back and forth between VHols and Flight Centre today...playing them off against each other basically

Anyway we managed to get a £5,000 reduction today based on same flights as previously held so we’re even happier.

We’ve got 8 adults, 4 children and an infant travelling in Upper both ways, 8 bed premium villa in the Reunion Resort, 2 x SUVs, Disney and Universal 14 day tickets all for a little over £50k.
