So being totally honest it was a slightly odd occurance!
The CH is stunning, fantastic layout and construction has started to reconfigure it to be airside which is good, although being Landside wasn’t too bad!
Never felt too busy, for the most part the service was on point! The staff take a lot of pride in it and it shows! I had a chat with one of the Duty Managers (more to follow!) and they have their VFlyer award in pride of place still! Up till about an hour before I left it was really up there and as one of my favourite clubhouses!
I was very early and, I will preface this with, I absolutely know my own limit with drink! I have flown UC quite a bit now and I know how to have a drink, not ruin myself for the flight or anyone else’s enjoyment.
I was sat with my ipad with FR24, and basically plane spotting. I started sampling their speciality cocktail menu. I had had a glass of champers and a red head and two cocktails over the space of about 3 hours.
I asked for another of the speciality ones.
A minute or two later I hear “Well how many has he had?!” “I don’t know” “Hmmm well you should, I’m not happy about keeping serving him”
At first I was taken a back, then I wasn’t sure if I was taking the pi$$ with being early, and then I came to my senses and I’m like “I pay £000s and I’m sat here quietly and being talked about behind my back”
I challenged the guy serving me who stated that they have a policy that each passenger is only allowed 1 alcoholic drink every two hours.
I have to be honest I tore him a new backside at this point and reminded him how much I fly with VS and that was busscocks and that I would like to speak to someone superior.
A few minutes later the bar manager came to speak to me and admitted it was him that made the comment and he then explained that the specialiaty cocktails are alcohol laden and since they started them they have had a number of offloads and he trains the wait staff to monitor how many people have so that they don’t get into a sticky wicket, and that this individual wasn’t really keeping a tab and that he was devastated I had overheard and he hadn’t realised and he had no issues with serving me or making any kind of insinuation that I was anything other than fit to fly!
The whole thing was really odd and it’s left me with and odd taste in my mouth I ended up having a good chat with him but I’m just still feeling a little bit annoyed by the whole thing.
I do recall a similar thread on a very similar incident at San Fran CHon this forum but I cannot find it! If the Original Poster is still about shout up!
