Hi all! Usually I try not to over think things, but in May we are going to Orlando from Manchester, on the 747.

It’s the first time I’ve taken the family in UC. Basically it’s my partner and I, our four year old son and our one year old daughter.

Our daughter will be on my partner’s lap, so that’s not an issue. My son is a good lad but I’m a bit concerned about him being scared during takeoff and landing, and me not being able to stop him getting out of his seat due to the way the cabin is laid out.

Right now I have 7A, 6K and 7K booked, so I can at least sit opposite him and offer encouragement. I wanted to book 6A but despite the cabin being empty, this was the only seat unavailable to book (not sure if someone else has it, or it’s blocked).

Does my seat selection sound like a good idea, or should we all just sit on the same side of the cabin and I grab 8K?

The final, final thing: how cramped/close together are those seats in the nose?

Thanks in advance for any replies, I appreciate it :)

I can't offer advice on which are the best seats for your particular family configuration as the last time we flew business as a family the concern was keeping the offsrping reasonably sober, but....

6A and K are close enough to play footsie with whoever is across the aisle. Great for couples, not so great for individuals. I once sat in 6K opposite someone reading a book about sobriety, who I was sure was counting my drinks... :)

7A and 7K a little further apart - enough IIRC for cabin crew to get through - and all others get further apart as you go further back.

I'd see the problem with picking one side of the cabin being that your boy won't be able to see your faces. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along to offer more detailed advice.

If it helps at all, I was sat in 7A on a VS 744 coming back from JFK to MAN the other week and this is the view from that seat to try and give you a sense of the layout:

Going out to ATL from MAN I was in 9A:

Thank you for the replies! Thinking I will probably just book 8/9/10K - looks like my original selection was a bit daft. As long as I can sit next to him and peer over the side of his seat, we should be fine.

Thanks again :)

All being on same side might be better. An incident a few years ago when we flew to L.A.. A family of 5 Mum & Dad in 6A and 7A Grandparents in 6K& 8K with a girl about 4 years old in 7K. All was fine until landing when, with the crew seated, she kept undoing her seat belt and wanting to get up. The Grandparents were able to stretch up and lean across to stop her . Hope this helps
