VS have just released their new amenity kits for UC and PE passengers.

REN beauty products: natural, vegan, good for your skin, good for the planet. Bambuubrush: a toothbrush with a bamboo handle that can be disposed of in compost, activated charcoal infused PBT bristles that help whiten your teeth and 100% biodegradable packaging. An incredibly comfortable total blackout eye mask. Real socks, in beautiful themed designs. And a Virgin Atlantic pen made mostly of recycled paper. All this, wrapped up in a handy reusable and stylish bag made of eco wonder material kraft paper. Welcome to the world’s most sustainable airline amenity kit. It’s so different we’re calling it our ‘goodie bag’.

The goodie bag will make its debut on our Airbus A350 flights and will gradually appear on other flights as stock of our old (but still really nice) amenity kits runs down.

More here.

They look cheap. I get the whole sustainability schtick, but if you're selling a premium product, it should look and feel premium. They can have bamboo pens, brushes and combs in nicer looking bags that can be reused. I don't know how we've gone from Oswald Boateng to used paper bags with the barest minimum of contents.

I can't help but feel as though the airline is going back to their 2012 phase with those bare minimum amenity kits they used to have... not to mention I get a330 dream suite vibes from the new a350 upper class design.

Also, do the PE amenity kits not get socks?!

I’m in favour of these. I don’t fly that often - once a year on average tops. I have already accrued multiple wasteful amenity bags that I don’t know what to do with.

Just because you’re paying for a “premium” product doesn’t mean sustainability doesn’t apply to you.

From what I understand, the socks in upper are a significant upgrade from previous versions, so this is something that you can use again and again and again, they're really thick and match any upmarket retail product in the marketplace (think A332 upper version ). New designs will link to Virgin destinations and rotate every six months. Launch sock is Tel Aviv (the design is an impressionistic view of sun parasols on the beach, as if you were looking down from above)

Eye mask is also an upgrade to something you can use again and again and not use just use once and throw away. REN products are new and match the new REN range in upper rest rooms

@Bambuubrush toothbrush is more sustainable than hard wood and the fastest growing plant on the planet, releasing 35% more oxygen into the air whilst absorbing CO2 at the same time

Socks in Premium are on request from the cabin crew (so not totally gone)

That's what I've heard
