I've recently been looking into status matching my BA Silver with Virgin as I've a lot of flight coming up where the VS times are much better than the BA times.

They've offered a like for like status match, which on the surface makes sense, Silver to Silver, but the problem is VS Silver is VERY different to BA Silver. In fact VS silver is closer to BA Bronze. BA Silver gives extra bags, extra bag weight, lounge access, priority security etc... it is, realistically closer to VS Gold.

It seems odd that they wouldn't take this into account when status matching, in my instance it's meant that I've kept my business with BA.

Has anyone had any luck matching BA Silver to VS Gold at all?

VS have done this in the past but often attached a condition, e.g. reach a number of tier points within a time period to confirm it is not just a clubhouse pass. Perhaps they don't see the need to at the moment ...

If VS was to routinely offer Gold for BA Silver, what would it offer for BA Gold? Let alone GGL?

Agreed BA Silver offers a lot, but given how easy it is to achieve VS would be crazy to match it for its top tier.

Some very useful insights here, maybe I'll show them my flight plan and see if they'll do anything to match.

My friend did this as he had BA gold. Then on his first ever VS flight got Op-Up'd to Upper from Premium. I was absolutely furious. Fortunately I got bumped up at the gate too, so crisis averted.

I matched BA gold to VS Gold back in 2015. Also came with a few thousand miles too.

When I was BA silver, VS flat out refused to match me to anything, so consider yourself lucky you got that!
