Has anyone had any experience of getting an iPad in Upper rather than using the IFE. I've just realised I'm flying an older A330-600 this week and remember from last time the resolution of the IFE screen being terrible

There is no problem using an iPad or laptop as long as you put it in airplane mode, etc.

If you also mean borrow one off the crew, then yes, especially If you are flying on G-VNAP, as you will more than likely need an iPad anyway as the IFE is (or at least was) knackered on NAP >-(

Ah, I misunderstood. Sorry. I have seen people borrow them on more than one occasion though.

They are smaller - it's an iPad mini in a special case including stand that also holds an extra battery.

If you have one of those cases with a double fold in it then you can “drape” it over the ife screens very nicely indeed 8-)

(not the best photo in the world sorry) but this was the iPad I had to borrow when I flew on NAP in July.

(whilst the menus and the map worked on the IFE, nothing what so ever would load / stream to the seat. Everyone in Upper had the same issue)

I've just landed in ATL after using one in UC. My IFE was working fine but the resolution is so bad, it's like watching a 480 video on YouTube, but slightly worse. I got an iPad mini which came with a little stand, the resolution was perfect full HD, the screen is slightly smaller but it doesn't really matter. It's loaded with a Vera app with all the movies but only a small handful of the TV shows.

Interesting, I wonder how often they get used. I see far more people with their own iPads loaded with content. I certainly do that. Download a few things on the Netflix app before I travel, and I’m all set.
