Hi everyone I have been lucky enough to snag two Gs LHR- JFK - MCO on the A350.
Could someone advise me or give me a walkthrough at JFK for my Delta connection.
Many thanks and Happy New Year

Get off plane

Walk to Immigration and clear that to enter the US*

Walk to baggage claim and pick up bags

Give bags to bag drop desk just after baggage claim. Note if you have any duty free (or other items you don't need for your MCO flight) pop it into your cases before handing them over

Walk to security and clear that

Enter Departures hall. Find lounge (hold your expectations).

Catch flight.

I connected through JFK again on Saturday and it’s very easy.

Your bags will be labelled to your final destination (MCO) when you check-in and you will be given boarding passes for both your VS and DL flights. It will be mentioned to you, but you need to collect your bags at JFK.

Once through immigration and after collecting your luggage, exit through customs you follow the signs for the terminal exit. After you exit turn left where you will then see a Delta transfer area. Just hand over your checked bags to a DL agent and then head to TSA security by turning left again.

There is a small TSA security check point on the arrivals level, however, in all the years I’ve connected at JFK I have never seen this checkpoint open as I believe it has limited hours.

If this checkpoint is closed just head up 2 levels using the lifts or escalators and use the standard T4 departure TSA security channel.

Your DL flight will be departing from either T4 B gates (the terminal you are in) or T2 (C gates). If it’s T2, once through TSA head down to departures, turn left and head towards the B gates. It’s well signposted but once you reach the departure gate area turn right and after a short walk head down the escalator to the bus transfer area. The bus to T2 will be the door on your left. Wait for a bus there to take you on the very short ride to T2. You will need your boarding passes as you board the bus.

As you are connecting from an International Upper Class flight you are entitled to use the DL SkyClub lounge. You can use the one in T4 or the one in T2 as well.

I used the SkyClub in T4 on Saturday as that’s the only one that has showers. The T2 DL SkyClub does have showers but I’ve never seen those open?

Be warned, JFK T2 is quite an old terminal and so it’s a little on the ‘dull’ side and the T2 DL SkyClub isn’t the best lounge either.

I’m not sure if this is still an issue or not but one thing I always do when I’m connecting VS>DL is re-print my boarding passes once I get to JFK as DL do (or at least did) have issues scanning VS issues boarding passes.

James, re your comment "As you are connecting from an International Upper Class flight you are entitled to use the DL SkyClub lounge. You can use the one in T4 or the one in T2 as well."
When I booked our flights LHR-JFK-MIA recently, I asked whether we could use the Virgin Clubhouse in JFK as our layover was over 4 hours, and the answer was yes. Do you know from maybe previous experience if this is the case?

In case this report of related (if not quite identical) experience is useful:

About 3 or 4 times, I've flown VS LHR-JFK and connected at JFK. Each time, I asked to use the Clubhouse at JFK, and each time, I was welcomed in.

I was generally traveling on an Economy fare, but as a FC Gold member. I'd expect that if they allow Clubhouse access for FC Gold connecting passengers, they'd do the same for those traveling in UC, regardless of FC status.

Hope this helps,
-Brad

The JFK Clubhouse is not open all day though is it?

Ah, an excellent point. Google claims it's open 4 - 8 AM and then 2:30 - 9 PM daily, which roughly makes sense given the departure times of flights. I seem to recall it remained open until at least 9:15 PM when I had a 10 PM flight a few months ago.

It looks like with the exception of the VS 3, which arrives at JFK at 11:45, and the VS 25, which arrives at JFK at 23:20 (an hour when an onward connection from JFK doesn't seem all that likely), all other VS metal flights arrive at JFK in the latter window above when the JFK Clubhouse is open.
