Did you book the hire car as part of a package or separately?

I'm not familiar with Alamo, but I would guess it's down to what your hire car agreement says. However, at this time there may be some leniency if it's non-refundable, so it's worth putting a call in to see what they can do.

P.S. VA is the code for Virgin Australia. ;-)

Virgin Holidays (who also provide car hire through the VS site) are still showing free cancellation or amendment on their website.

We were due to fly to vegas on the 22nd March, car hire through virgin(HOLIDAYS) . I was going to ring them but they rang us well before and also sent an e-mail with the refund details. No money through as yet presume it will all take time as we are probably way down on the list.

Car parking at Heathrow was refunded same day very impressed. BA says refund in progress, hopefully it will be returned in about a month. Seat selection money returned in a day as well. Linda

Due to pickup a car booked through Virgin/Alamo at SFO tomorrow.
So frustrating trying to get hold of them.
Actually spoke to an agent about 2 weeks ago who said that I was entitled to a refund and then on Saturday received an email saying that I was entitled to a voucher and in small print at the bottom of there was a link to apply for a refund but like throughout this whole process, the booking number is not being recognized.
The latest is that I have had to contact them by text, received a reply yesterday asking for proof of id, ie dob, postcode etc.
Still waiting.
This car hire booking was an add on to my BA holiday to California. BA have been fantastic, and refunded me the whole cost of the holiday with no fuss.
Virgin seriously need to step up their game. There is no reason on earth that they should be taking so long to process these refunds.
Stay safe everyone.

Of course there is, a huge number of refunds to process and protentially a scaled down team due to social distancing etc.

I totally understand that but not 3 weeks, and then a wait of up to 45 days when BA did it within 2 days

We had our BA flights cancelled - despite trying and trying and trying some more, could not get through to BA on any number. We’d paid on Amex for the flights and also car hire, so in the end I called them and claimed under section 75. The woman I spoke to looked up the dates I paid and the amounts, and said they will refund. So much easier than playing the miserable game BA have laid out.

Interestingly, I was watching Martin Lewis the other night, he was also talking about claiming in credit card instead...

In contrast - as you said - cancelling LHR parking was easy and refund immediate.

We had flights and car hire booked with virgin on 20th March. Virgin holidays rang me to advise that our car hire was cancelled and they would arrange a refund. We had to ring Virgin to get a refund on our flights. We haven't had our refund yet but interestingly we had paid for a miles boost which virgin arranged to be refunded which was done within days for that. I was told it could take up to 90 days for the refund to be completed.
