CNN reporting the CDC are ending the CV19 screening from high risk countries and the funnelling of International arrivals through the current 15 designated US airports from Monday 14th September. Interesting timing what with the elections coming up in November!

No, it’s confirmed:

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020 ... ngers.html

So this frees up VS to restart flights to MCO and LAS, if it so desires. However it’ll make little difference to most Brits as the Presidential Proclamation remains in force.

So if you’re already allowed in to the US, you’ll have more choice of entry points from next week. If you’re not, nothing changes.

I watched the press conference today... still trying to suggest Europe is in a dire state with the overall handling of Covid compared to his incredible approach. UK didn’t get a mention though.

Unsure how they can open it up when it’s all about optics.

I’m aware the article we’re discussing doesn’t allude to opening up the US, but I have seen multiple travel correspondents do so across the day.

If I were running in the November election I would wait until mid October to announce a lifting on the travel ban from selected European countries and have it coming into force around 4th November - giving a positive result to the millions relying on the travel industry for their livelihoods if they support me. Not that I am suggesting it would ever be based on anything other than health grounds.

If I was running for a second term, opening up the US border when infection rates in much of Europe are soaring again would be the very last thing I would do.

This is the “foreign virus” remember, and the core support base on which I’m relying for re-election would not be amused.

Very true. Coz ‘they’ did a really good job of saving the US from the “foreign virus” !!!!!

On 14th March, when they finally added the UK to those “infectious countries” who were banned entry, the US only had 2,499 cases, with 68 who had died from the virus. So the current statistics shows the decision maker really did a fantastic job keeping the ‘virus out’ and the supporters should be really impressed ;-)

There are two issues here

1 - the ending of screening on arrival. It's basically not identified many cases but has caused all sorts of problems for airlines and those people that are able to travel by restricting which airports international arrivals can arrive at. Ending the screening means airlines can offer more of their usual schedules and destinations.

2. The entry ban for those arriving from certain countries if they have been there in the last 14 days. And remember it's people arriving from a country not nationals or residents of those countries. I as a UK passport holder am still able to go to the US as long as (a) I arrive from a safe country and (b) havn't been in an unsafe region in the last 14 days.

Part of the very early confusion on arrivals from Europe was a lack of understanding in the US over the differences between geographic Europe, The European Union and Schengen and how the UK and RoI fitted into it.

It all came down to whether a country had control over its own borders so it would have been possible for the UK to have been excluded from the ban if we hadn't had the CTA with the RoI. It's why Croatia (an EU member but not in Schengen so has border control) was allowed entry but Norway (not in EU but in Schengen) wasn't.

Ending the arrival screening does not mean 2 will end any time soon until the US adjusts it's approach to which counties are safe and which aren't.

I don't see them doing anything before the election because whilst lifting the ban would help the airline and tourist industries it would it would anger a section of the population. And whilst companies is some legal circumstances have the rights that a person has they don't have the right to vote!
