My son and his wife were due to fly MAN-MCO in late July this year, having booked in November 2019. This was cancelled and a refund is in progress for that flight.

Virgin continued to offer flights and so they booked new flights in June for the end of August. This was cancelled by Virgin in July
They Rebooked this for early Oct and it was cancelled in August
They Rebooked this for late Oct and it was cancelled in September.
They Rebooked this for Nov and it was cancelled at the end September.
They requested a rebook for 21 January 2021 but have now been told the Virgin guarantee of no fee to change/no change in price is only good for two changes and they are looking for £110 per person extra.
All this has been by text.

I am not sure if that's correct that since it's been Virgin doing the cancelling and the customer being forced to change.

The website shows:  To make it as easy as possible and for immediate peace of mind, we will automatically keep your ticket open as credit for you to use any time up to 30th September 2022. There's no fee to make this change, and if you choose to travel on the same route up to 9th December 2020 or between 11th January 2021 - 31st March 2021, we’ll also waive any differences in the fare. You can change the passenger names if you’d like someone else to benefit from your booking too. See our ‘Flexible No Change Fees’ policy below for more details. There’s absolutely no rush to make a decision right now, just keep your booking reference as confirmation of your credit. When you’re ready to rebook, the best way to contact us is through our 'Rebook my flights' form below.

and also (Where it mentions the two free changes)

The headline info. looks to offer great flexibility but it would seem its not as clear cut (from Virgins viewpoint)
Any comments welcome, thanks.

For a start they should not rebook for January. If the flights are running by then there will be availability closer to the time. I think they should take the hint that their rebooking strategy is no working! I'm sure they are keen to go but given Boris talked about another 6 months it's best to hang back.

My advice would be to call, I called to rebook flights last week. Answered in 20 minutes and all sorted in 15 minutes. By text I have had some fairly variable responses.

I too would just request a refund now and wait to rebook a few weeks in advance once US boarders do open up again.
