We will be staying at the Bellagio at the beginning of April and can't decide on which room to pick.

The choice is between a Deluxe Lake View Room or a Salone Suite (only suite they have available). The Salone Suite will have either a pool view or a sunset view (whatever that is). We really wanted a lake view suite but they don't have any available.

Can anyone offer any help in helping me decide?

I agree - I've stayed in a Deluxe Lake View Room and it was fine for Vegas - obviously not a suite but quite a nice bathroom with sep shower and bath.

Thanks,
Richard

lake views are lovely, you might get a sneeky peek at those VIP apartments below where the jet set stay and have their own secret entrance.
nice watching the fountains and listening to the mucic on the tv.

Hiya

Salone suites are right in the corners of the building but IIRC have windows both sides, and the Deluxe Lake View rooms would (usually) be directly facing the faountains.

If you have the Salone the room will be nicer but may have less of a view of the fountains.

When i last stayed at the Bellagio their website said no suites were available (i stayed over New Year) and lo and behold we were offered an upgrade to a Penthouse suite, so there is always the chance of upgrading on arrival.

Where are you booking the room?

You can always check other places (Expedia etc) to see their availibility and hold onto a reservation of a Deluxe Room until the last minute - you can then cancel with no charges. You can also call them to manually get them to check what rooms are available, i did this in an endeavour to get a suite and spoke to a bery helpful lady.

Whatever room you choose/get, it will still be fab .. its the Bellagio!!

Thanks for all the replies.

Sarah, I have checked rates on expedia and all the usual sites but so far the best rates I have found have been directly from the Bellagio. I think I'll follow your advice and book a lake view room and then ask at check in about availability of suites.

The lake view rooms are fabulous. We stayed in one last here (some photos here ). The rooms are really large, and the views of the fountains fabulous. We took the advice to do that for a first stay rather then a suite, so glad we did!

HighFlyer - didn't you say there is a floor to avoid at the front of the hotel because of the wossname partially blocking the view?

Floor 33

It has the balasted (sp) obscuring the view of the fountains, which, if your paying the extra to have the fountain view in the first place is kind of a sore point. See here for my picture of the bedroom in my suite for an idea of what i mean. If you are vertically challenged like myself, its a real pain as i actually had to admit to standing on a chair to watch the fountains one night [:I]

Thanks,
Sarah

Mat, thanks for the link to the photos - they're great - can't wait to go now.

Sarah - I'll try to avoid the 33rd floor.

One more question (sorry!) - when you went were the queues for the breakfast buffet really long or can queues be avoided with careful timing? It's just that the Salone Suite includes front of the line passes.

When you get to the Bellagio, go to the Players club desk (it's behind the main cage in the casino) and join once you have ask if you could have a line pass fot the buffet;)

Phil, thanks - now I don't need to worry about whether I should have booked the suite or not. I think the trip is now completely sorted[:o)]

Also i cant remember if it's when you join the PC or after you have gambled some $ you get a free gift and one of them is a 2-4-1 at a buffet at any of the MGM Mirage properties, your have to ask them at the desk.

So make sure you both join, and DONT forget to put your card in the slot at the machine or hand it over to the dealer to earn points.

I too would also suggest the Lakeview Rooms, especially if its your first stay as the fountains and the view in general really is quite magical.

The rooms are still very large, with nice big bathrooms.
For what I've seen of the salone suites I wouldn't say they are that much better in size.

Dean, I agree they don't look much bigger, don't have a lake view and are quite a bit more money.

Thanks to Phil I now have a legitimate reason to use the casino so will use the money we have saved on the suite there instead[:o)]

Have now booked the lake view room.

Hi we've upgraded to the lakeview room and paid the hotel direct before going so therefore have more spare cash to spend when we're there.

Flying in Sunday and will do a trip report on our return on 10 February.

However, home PC needs a new motherboard and will have to do this during work hours, which if it's as manic as it has been, might be a little while after 10 Feb.

I will do it though for you Lilyjosh, don't worry.

Stayed in October and have to say that from the 25th floor the fountains look about 10% as good as they do from the terrace of one of the restaurants or from the street. Better to look up than down in my opinion! Also, we had a Salone Suite with a partial lakeview and the suite was fabulous - got it for a price lower than we initially booked when we got an email with special offers - so a double win. It's worth signing up on their web site for offers.

Whatever - it's a huge hotel and takes ages to get from anywhere to anywhere but it is good if a little impersonal. Enjoy it, but please watch the fountains from street level or from Olive or Circus or any other place - they're much better and you get to hear the whoosh of the jets and everything!

Lynne, thanks and have a great trip.

Slinky - have already booked a lake view room now but will keep an eye open for special offers and will ask at check in about availability of suites. I have signed up for emails so you never know - I might get lucky.

Lilyjosh -if you email customer services about a week before you arrive they should arrange for line passes to be given to you on check-in. I'm staying later in the year and was also worried about the lengthy queues (even for guests staying in the hotel) so contacted customer services at the hotel who were extremely helpful and have suggested doing exactly this. It's worth joining the players club too -the link is on the Bellagio site and also on the main MGM site.Hope you have a great time.

Hi

Just got back from the Bellagio.

Stayed in deluxe lakeview room 16030 on the 16th floor - they couldn't get me in a higher non smoking room than that with a good lakeview. The room had a good view and I liked looking down at the fountains, rather than at ground level as you got a lot more detail rather than mist.

The room itself was okay in size (not huge by some US standards) with a king bed. The bathroom was nice with one sink (I thought there would be a double sink) and large separate shower and average size bath.

It was a hike from the lifts to the room but that was good as there are some very loud people who tend to frequent the corriders at about 2.30am.

The general service at Bellagio was okay but after travelling to places in the East, I think they have a lot to learn about service. It seemed to take a battle to get anything done if you needed it. The one thing that surprised me was that room service breakfast trolleys were still left in the corridor at 6pm - something I didn't expect of a 5* hotel.

Also the maids timing could be better - who wants to have a knock at the door at 8am to clean the room!

Then on another day, the room had still not been cleaned by 1pm when we returned.

Overall, a good stay but even at a quiet time of the year, I felt it was too busy. Having a 15-20 wait to check in, battling through a full casino with suitcases after a long flight does not leave you in the best of moods on arrival. As long as you are aware of all this, then enjoy the fountains as they are really lovely.

PS. Try the Mix at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay for a meal and drinks - the views are just fantastic.

If you're up for it, go on XScream the fall off the side rollercoaster at Stratosphere, it's great and less scary on it than it looks when you off it.

Lynne, thanks for the TR, I'm going to the Bellagio in 2 weeks, so this has helped.

I'll definately go with your recommendation of Mix, but I think I'll pass on the XScream!

Lynne, your comments echo some I've seen on Tripadvisor etc. I must admit I hate seeing the remnants of room service left sitting in corridors. I'm starting to wonder whether I should have booked the Four Seasons which was our second choice. Mind you I always do this when I book a trip - start worrying that I've made the wrong choice!!

By the way I think I'll also pass on XScream[:0]

jmf, hope you have a great trip and I'd be really interested in your comments when you get back.

I too am now worrying that I've made the wrong choice -guess I'll keep an eye on TRs and forum comments before I alter anything as I'm not going until later in the year. Not too keen on the idea of Xscream though!! Rides on the ground i can cope with but on the top of a tower and over the edge.....Uh uh....Glad you had a good time lynnewob.Have you done a TR?
#99499 by lynnewob
15 Feb 2006, 10:30
No I haven't done a formal TR, not yet caught up on the return flight yet either!

The one excellent thing about the Bellagio is it's position. Don't worry it's a good choice but I know what you mean, I think I'd look at the Four Seasons next time or possibly the Wynn.

From the centre of the strip, we found we had a day walking towards Mandalay Bay, taking in MGM Grand, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and another day beginning at the Strat (via taxi) and doing Wynn, Mirage, Treasure Island, Venentian.

Then another day doing Grand Canyon with Papillon helicopters.

A good trip overall and I'm sure you'll enjoy the whole package and walk your feet off!!
