Enough time?

I just went to book my connecting flight MCO-ATL for return home to MAN and the flights which gave us a more generous layover have now disappeared from reward options, leaving us either far too long at ATL or with a connection of just 2 hours 15 minutes.

Having never connected this way (domestic to international) at ATL please can someone tell me if this enough time, bearing in mind that we will likely need to re-check our bags (separate tickets)? Cheers

Personally since it’s separate tickets I’d go for the longer connection.
You could always due a day-use hotel booking at ATL, which are cheap-ish.
I wouldn’t risk it with 2hr connection on separate ticket.
I did LAS-ATL-LHR , and LAS-ATL was delayed 1hr 40mins, and whilst no hold luggage, it was a rush to get to next flight and had no time to even go to the lounge. That was on the same ticket; and knew there were 2 other flights to LHR.

I have done it with less time in the past *but* as Oliver points out, if your connecting flight is delayed for any reason it could really mess things up.

If your connecting flight is on Delta you shouldn't have any problems getting them to tag your bags all the way through to MAN if you ask nicely - even on separate PNRs, eliminating the need to collect and retag them - you can just stay airside at ATL.

ATL is really set up for fast connections, and you can often see expedited bag vehicles rushing across the tarmac to ensure they make their flight.

That said, I am really risk averse and will often end up planning way more time than I need, just in case. In such circumstances, I take the opportunity for a long walk through the ATL concourses, and/or lounge hop between the Delta Sky Clubs (on my last trip I went to all of them!) - the newish one in the centre of Concourse D is probably my favourite. I spend a bit of time there and then head to the one in Concourse F before taking the Virgin flight home.

No way that short at ATL, just not worth the risk, how long is the longer lay over?

Thanks everyone. It is Delta so could get tagged through but I am not usually a risk taker!

Unfortunately the only other flight available at the moment through Virgin FC gives us a 6 hour+ layover which we could easily fill, it just feels like a waste of time when we could be doing our final shopping in Orlando!
