Global Entry & TSA Pre Suspended

I have just seen the story. I would have thought that sine most of GE is automated that it would use less staff not more so I wonder if this is political grand standing rather than practicality.

DHS have indeed reversed this decision now. Having traveled through SFO T1 this morning for my DL flight to LAX, all normal security protocols were in place with TSA-Pre and Clear+ all fully operational. I was through security in under 3mins using the upstairs Clear+ with TSA-Pre lane in T1.

I have read that US airports that don't have CBP staffing issues are still operating Global Entry. This makes sense as GE visitors are sort of pre-cleared and are quick to process. I understand Orlando is one airport where GE is still running - hope so, for a week today.

That is a pain, i have a 90min connection next month at JFK.

Got back from a week in sunny Orlando yesterday. Was not looking forward to arrival as on a high-J A350 and in 2A, so 40-ish passengers ahead of me from my flight alone in immigration. On landing, I did submit a MPC application, but the App just hung when trying to finalise the submission (can't remember the exact wording, have deleted the screenshot) but it was something like "Finalising submission" with animated graphics moving.

All the GE signage is still there on the signs telling your group letter as you progress towards the immigration hall. When there, the GE kiosks just have "NOT IN USE" notices on them, so directed into the Visitors lane. After about a 5min wait I saw an officer, he took a photo of me and said "you have Global Entry", asked me how much cash I had on me and waved me on my way. He did not even open my passport.

So it would appear that at MCO, a sort of pseudo Global Entry is operating, once you get to the front of the Visitors immigration queue.

Was through immigration, bag-claim & customs faster than it took to sort out the Visitor Toll Pass. The cash lanes on the SR528 between the airport and I-Drive have closed for good. Make sure you have the VTP application downloaded before you travel (I didn't) and set an account up with credit card details linked. You can pre-book your pass so you have the QR code ready to scan at the kiosk to get your VTP. Despite what the App says, you do not have to enter your rental car licence plate into the app - it will "marry-up" with the transponder tag at the first toll you pass through. The VTP charges tolls at the absolute lowest rate too - the old cash toll on SR528 from airport to I-Drive was $3.25 - it's $2.21 each way with VTP.

How does the app work? I normally go via JFK and just scan my face at the machine.

It’s similar to the MPC app. You complete when you land and it means you don’t need to use the kiosks, you can go straight ahead.
