Flew the VS7 / VS8 in the last week and there are new menus in Upper Class. Breakfast cards have now also gone.

Not wanting to take this post off topic, but the speedy supper service I pre-ordered on the VS8 last night was far far from speedy; in fact I actually had to prompt the FSM to receive it as they had 'forgotten about me' >-(

Also the first page of the inbound menu mentions the Margherita pizza mid-flight option, however, that's actually not available on inbound flights (it's only on the outbound flights).

I'm also guessing that mid-flight option is also only on the longer west coast flights?

Morning James.

Looks like the cheese plate is now considered a dessert or can you still have both ?

Thanks.

David.

I feel like virgin miss the mark so so often on meals, its crazy really. They could simplify the menu and it would be a simple win for them.

I’d pre-ordered for both flights and on the outbound picked the chicken burger which was actually really good.

The mid-flight mini margherita was pretty nasty though. Half it it ended up getting stuck on the packaging >-(

Here's my selection:

Outbound

All really good actually (apart from the nasty mid-flight mini pizza).

The menu does not look that bad to me. I’ve has the pre-order email for the VS73 on Monday and the main course & express options are the same as above- with one exception. The fish option is Pan Fried Salmon, with the exact same sauce & vegetables.

I wonder is this is a glitch, or are the MAN caterers doing something different? Monday will tell - when I do or don’t get told the fish is cod when they come to take orders for starters.

Taking breakfast order cards away is really going to slow service down - especially on the high-J A350’s. I normally have the full English breakfast, minus the scrambled eggs & tomato. With the order card it was easy to tick the option and put a line through the items I didn’t want on the plate (the hot meals are not pre-plated - giveaway being hot food served on a very cold plate). Only the starters, desserts and cheese are pre-plated.

Maybe the breakfast cards have gone because too many of the 1p biros were getting nicked (they had to loan you a pen to fill in the card). And no, I did not nick the pens - but look around the office and there are a lot of aeroplane salt and pepper shakers on tops of monitors (colleagues ask me for them, but you are actively encouraged to pinch them).

The crew did make a point of asking me what I wanted for breakfast before most other pax to be sure I received my first choice as I did ask to be woken up.

Was that because of the previous speedy supper failure or because I'm FC Gold? Not sure, I suspect the former in all honesty.

The soup was barely warm as well but by that point I couldn’t be bothered to saying anything more.

I sent an email to the new CEO recently and covered some of the improvements I think they needed to make.

He actually replied, with some other execs & VP's in copy. It was not boilerplate, there was some genuine discussion, so that bodes well.

I was pretty brutal about the catering situation (including the beef position), so keep reporting the dire situation via all available channels and things may change.

Once again shell fish as a starter on outbound and inbound flights. As someone with a shell fish allergy I have raised the issue before but got no response from Virgin. I realise that I am in a minority but is it really too much to ask that less than 50% of their starters contain a common allergen.
