Ohhhhh. I like the advert. Very "typical Virgin" to go with something that is completely different. I took a look on Airliners.net.... some people can be so negative and nasty.

At the end of the day, Virgin has come up with a very clever advertising campaign which basically has the message of "if you want to sit on your own, fly Virgin UCS". This advert could work with two women or heterosexuals; the fact that it is two men is neither here nor there.

Virgin does however have a history of being a "gay friendly" company.... remember Heaven night club being bought by SRB in the early days.

Just why were on the topic of Heaven nightclub i remember a lil'o airline by the name of BA trying to use it to discredit SRB and VS in the early days, and yet he stuck with it.

Those on A.net really get all upset about stuff this topic is still going strong on there!

Does anyone know what ad agency VS use?

I forgot about that bit.... which reminds me, I must read my "Dirty Tricks" book, or maybe I'll save it for when I'm next on a BA flight.

My Vehicle Systems professor played this video in class. I was unable to attend as it was the day I was traveling to the V-Flyer meet-up.

Some students seam to have reported him to the higher muckedy muck for playing gay videos in class. From what I have gathered, he played it as a opening to class ice breaker in and aerospace class. Gotta love the south (USA)!

So what is your take. Do you find this video acceptable to be played in a third year university class (should have taken the class)?

Ben,
I did not catch this thread when it first "played" in 2005. So, have spent a few minutes rereading it, and watching the commercial, of course.

I can't see much wrong with playing a video like this in an aviation class, to third-year college students. Actually, it could be played in marketing classes, anthropology classes, etc. and still have relevance.

Aside from all the above, I really thought it was a trememdously clever advert.

Yes, an amusing advert,
however
from my point of view, its taking the pizz out of homosexuals, that they can only ever find the ugly birds and at the end, he was having a nightmare, not advocating homosexuals should fly Virgin.

A nice piece of marketing, that the homosexual community finds it funny and the hetrosexual community also finds it funny for seperate reasons.
Not easy to do. Kudos to them
