With the demise of the miles-earning VS MasterCard, I have been on the lookout for another miles-earning card to use at those places where Amex is refused (who said miles whore :D). So, does anyone know whether or not one can transfer miles earned on the BMI MasterCard to FC accounts and use on VS bookings?

No you can't transfer them, BUT you can spend BMI miles on VS redemptions. [:?]

Hi John,

You cannot get your BMI card sending miles to your FC account unfortuanely. You will need to set up a Diamond club account with BMI to get your miles credited.

There is no effective way of transfering BMI miles into he VS equivilent though. Have a look round BMI's site as they have some good offers on reward booking for miles plus cash (not VS unfortuanely though)

VS rewards through BMI are not worth entertaining given some of the other options......... :D

Thanks for the swift replies guys.

So, is there such a beast then (ie a MasterCard from which one can tx miles to a FC account) :D

The only card I am aware of John is the BAA offering. You earn their worldpoints at 1 point per £1 spent, you can transfer those across to VS miles at a 1-1 ratio. :)

I've heard this a number of times, why is this? For some destinatons the miles needed are the same as if you were going direct through the FC.

I think they are refering to the lower redemption rates on BMI and also their miles + cash rates which appear to be good 'value'

The main attraction is the number of decent *A airlines that you can redeem your BMI miles with, and at decent rates too.

Thanks,

just out of interest, has anyone else been getting a hard time from MBNA's security dept?! I've just recently started using my BMI card for all my shopping and it's been fine but I got a text from them today saying I needed to contact them due to suspicious activity. When I called them what did they say was the problem? I spent £10 on ebay!!

Seriously, I'm all for security but this does take the p*ss!

Those of us well versed with MBNA will call this 'normal' :)

Its good that they are on the ball for strange expenditure but occasionally they get their profiling wrong. Ive had my card deactivated when on a shopping bender in MCO which was a pain, ive also had a call to my mobile when they saw a high spend at Mr J Choo - they just wanted to speak to me to check i had spent the money and that it wasnt fraudulent. Its peace of mind to some and an annoyance to others.

Call them, ask to speak to your account manager and advise them of your usual spending habits. I used to call mine (back in the MC days) whenever i was going on a trip so i wouldnt get the card cut off overseas. They should be able to enter the notes on your file so you do not get quite as many calls.

And as for the payment protection ... a few colourful metaphors ensure they dont call back for that one! ;)

Thanks,
Sarah
