Decker, please dont tell me that the spuds I've had at your house have been cooked in beef dripping?

Sarah

Just seen the thread - answer yes! Spuds and Yorkshire Puds are always best made from the dripping of the meat (as is the gravy). Know I made chicken for you, but everybody else had beef - sorry. I have used oil to do spuds, but really they do not taste the same. Hope you can forgive

Having just had a panic [:I] about cooking Thanksgiving Dinner in Vegas myself for all my single friends I found a great shop that does a lot of ready made things similar to what you would find in M&S [^] - It is called fresh&easy - http://www.freshandeasy.com will help you find your nearest store - and it is run by Tesco's!

We went over there this past weekend, what a great store and they even carry real bacon [oo][y]

Can't you ask for a Thanksgiving dinner a month late. The last one I had in 2001 was almost identical.

Just what DOES constitute a Thanksgiving dinner though? Am I wrong in thinking there's pumpkin in there somewhere? I thought they were a good few differences between it and Xmas dinner. No sprouts, for a kick-off...[:D]

Hi, Claire ...
There are many holiday food traditions in our country; it really depends on one's family or religion. For some in the US Thanksgiving means roast turkey with bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams, cranberry sauce, and maybe a green bean casserole or some other favorite.

In Vegas, of course, many people don't even know that it's Thanksgiving or are too busy having fun to eat! Scrooge was probably working on Thanksgiving.

At Christmas it's either 'Thanksgiving' again -- or many people fancy a baked ham. My sister makes us a mean creamed onions and cheese casserole to go along with the ham. One of my friends enjoys a standing rib roast for Christmas; another has lobsters flown in.

Chuck-

Thanks Chuck - green bean casserole? That sounds intriguing? Anyone got a recipe for it????

Hey, interesting to hear of someone who's done a fresh and easy shop, rather than reading of its existence. I take it you were positively impressed then and may be making further trips??? Real bacon in the US? Whatever next?![}:)]

Yep, we will be shopping there again.

The selection is a little limited, but there is some good stuff in there and the store is close enough to the house to warrant an extra trip.

The roasties came out very well and were a hit, thank you all so much [oo]

No sprouts, none even in the house [^]

Of course I also made some Yorkshire puddings...which for some reason decided they didn't want to rise ??? but still came out perfectly and along with some American stove topI also broke out the paxo stuffing...which I enjoyed, but the American contingent just looked at in bewildered horror [y]
