Flew mco to lgw last week on a economy sale miles ticket, tried to miles upgrade at check in but flight was full so paid $75 for exit seat. At the gate i managed to use miles to upgrade to Upper for the return (a joy i must add), but am i due the $75 back that i paid or should I have paid any tax that i was not asked for? Just wondered what the team on here think as i have never upgraded from a paid exit seat before, thanks Paul
In my opinion, and others will correct me on this, you were extremely lucky to get a) an exit seat albeit with paying $75 dollars and then b) an upgrade with miles at the gate especially on an MCO-LGW flight where UC seats are generally considered gold dust for an upgrade. Therefore, given that scenario and the fact the rest of the cabin would have probably paid Z, D or even J fares, I think it extremely churlish of you to seek a refund of the $75 dollars you paid. If it had been me in that situation I would have been turning cartwheels all around MCO in spite of my 'golden years'

Congrats though Paul, on getting something that most don't get a sniff at! [y]

I must be lucky but have often upgraded to UC at check in using miles at MCO. However last time I did that they charged me an administration fee of $20[:0] When I said that I never had been charged before they said the fee had been recently introduced. But hey who am I to argue when I am going to sit in UC [8D]
Damn right should get whatever difference in cash back - any airline is quick to charge and we passengers should be equally quick to ask back where due! Heck, where's the charity in this line of business ... answer zilch!
There's a plane at JFK, to fly you back from far away
all those dark and frantic transatlantic miles
