Miles flight to South America?

I have a weeks vacation offer to Buenos Aires, and 300k+ miles in the account, but cant see any way to spend my miles to get there - anyone know if South America is a black hole in VA system, or am I missing some partner option?

would love to get there on my miles and save some pennies...

Continental seems my only option, with a layover in Houston. 70k business 35k economy.
not bad for such a l-o-n-g flight, but was hoping for something direct, to save about 4 hrs each way in the air.

AA seems to be the only direct one from JFK, and that flight is 10hrs 40 mins (they are not a partner airline of course)

CO miles flight goes via Houston, adds 4 hrs in the air and anything from 3 to 6 on the ground in Houston, then its STILL 10hrs 20 mins to Buenos! that's 7 hrs more traveling time, each way, to get a miles seat.

doesn't seem worth it to me - but WWJD?

I would go in J both ways on either airline, they both offer a solid J product to EZE.

Don't AA fly 777s to South America now from JFK, so at least flat beds in business?

That said, to use miles CO is the OPs only choice so it is academic really and CO is fairly good.

Yes they do.

The Op doesn't tell us when he is looking to take this trip, but CO will be switching to a new seat in J, let me see if I can dig out some info for it.

I'm heading towards AA, as simply, miles or no, I'd be 3/4 of the way to Buenos Aires in AA, while still sitting on the ground in USA waiting for my CO connection from Houston. I'm European, and despite 10 years living in the States, still haven't got used to the hub system - i.e. shipping you off some random other airport, (in this case FOUR hours away...) making you wait for more hours in that airport, before flying you to your actual destination on another flight.

the only thing that would change my mind is a flat bed in CO for only 70k miles on a 10+hr flight.
if its AA it'd be economy, as it would be serious personal $ otherwise...

am going in late November.

Don't forget that if you'd have nicer places to sit between flights if you go CO J. But possibly not that nice. And while making the travel part of the trip works well on the outbound, I'd be crawling the walls on the way back...!
