First time flying on southwest airlines so was really looking forward to it,we checked in online and had purchased early bird boarding and given A group boarding card and position 46 where you stand at numbered bus stop like stands waiting for your boarding group and number to be called a much fairer system than purchasing the speedy boarding here in the UK and still not getting on the aircraft early, we had two checked in bags which went free and once onboard we were offered free soft and hot drinks and there was plenty of legroom.the flight time was 4.45 minutes and it was nice to not have to endure the sell sell sell culture that you get on low cost carriers back here, flight landed on time and we were soon through the airport and on our way to our hotel a great first time experience with southwest airlines and I wouldn't hesitate in using them again.

Thanks for the report.

We have used Southwest a couple of times, and my parents did just last week, we all agree that they are really good value. Yes, they are low cost, but you get what you pay for, and the 2 free checked bags help make them very attractive when doing internals.

Nice TR - useful to get positive feedback for internal US carriers as I only occasionally use them and you can hear some horror stories in the press!

I have flown Southwest several times and as many people note here, they are a good value low cost airline. I use them much less now that Virgin America covers some of the same routes, particularly on the west coast. I find VX gives a much better service and comparable prices. (They always seem to have some sort of sale or offer going on).

Flew with them a few weeks ago (LA - Phoenix) and it was fine. It all seemed very friendly and great for a short hop, plus, as a couple of people here pointed out, they're one of the few budget lines to include some bags in their cost.

The other notable one being jetBlue who don't charge for the first checked bag. I flew one of their more unusual routes; Martha's Vineyard to JFK earlier this month and I chose them over Delta largely because DL wanted to charge me $25 per bag.

It must be one of their shortest routes. IIRC we were in the air for 37 minutes. :)
