Given the dates, it is far more likely I am, but I keep putting in 26/7 and 18/8 and getting the sale prices.

ETA: Having called, it wasn't quite as cheap as the website was suggesting it should be - I didn't get an explanation as to why that was - but £140 per person return was still far too good a deal to turn out.

y) Proof of the pudding and all that...I was making the mistake of putting dates as suggested by the depature dates on the "Cheap Vancouver Flights" VS page. Foolish boy. ii)

The tax element will be the same (UK APD is the same in PE as UC and the OP is already in UC as is the Canadian HST). What is different is the VS fuel surcharge which is not a tac at all.

There might also be a change fee involved - its not just a case of substituting a UC for a PE ticket - or the need to move from the K into either the W/S PE fare buckets before doing the upgrade.

Ahh def bow to your more extensive knowledge oo)

I do tend to think of the VS fuel surcharges as a tax though.. just levied by VS instead of a gov against the rising cost of fuel duties. n(

Airlines don't pay fuel duties or VAT on jet fuel.

The VS fuel surcharge goes 100% in to the VS bank account. And whilst the surcharge has gone up the price of oil has come down ...

Sorry didn't express myself correctly. I did mean the rising cost of fuel as a whole, as opposed to any specific taxes on aviation fuel, which is how it must have read. Been a long day.. ][|)

Kinda figured that the "fuel surcharge" was a way for VS to make and extra couple of quid off us travellers.

Cheers for the info though. |:)

Ooh if only they have one of these sales for the fall aswell. 1100 return to vancouver instead of 3300 is a real bargain indeed.

More of this Virgin please :D

IIRC they had a sale in August/September last year, in all cabins, but prices weren't nearly as good as these - and of course there's no guarantee it'll happen again this year.

Just booked an LHR-LAX / SFO-LHR in Upper for £1,450 - now THAT'S a steal.

(Reminds me of the old days when Z's as standard were only £2k!) :)

Well done, what dates are you travelling? Reason I asked is that I couldn't find anything under £3000 for two persons flying into same cities and that was last week when the sale first was announced.

Just called to change a ticket to the sale fare for my father in law, only to be told that the L (upgraded to G with my miles) and K return that I had purchased for £1278 a few months ago were non-refundable! Agent told me it was like "buying a TV that went on sale" and then wanting to get the difference back from the shop.

A gentle push with a mention of the gold card and the number of bookings that I'd made this year, to see if there was anything she could do...and a quick check with her supervisor and now 20,000 miles refunded and £20 fare difference paid essentially for an extra leg in Upper. He's going to be so chuffed!

Now, just have to find a G so I can accompany him back in the same cabin!

Well done for pushing back against a clearly clueless agent.

For my trip this summer, on the return leg I upgraded a K to a Z for £26, and for the outbound I changed an L to a Z for £120 which also got my 30,000 miles for the G refunded instantly.

As the saying goes, see it and snap it. Just delayed by a day on a trip to New York and San Francisco and saw the Z's go and the price increase by £1,200 :0 .

I am going from LHR to LAX in Sept '13.
I was quoted Upper class return last week of £3200 by Virgin holidays.

Is that about the best price for that journey from what people have previously seen ?
If it is then I am tempted to book it, but it is for the late flight out to LAX, there was no listing for the earlier flight, which I would rather get, but if I am not likely to get it any cheaper then I will just go for it.

Quick question, Is the sale up to and including the 14th? Will I have all day tomorrow to book or does it end at midnight tonight?

A couple of really great UC fares I want to snap up, but need to find out some info tomorrow before booking preferably.

Really terrific fares by the way, a real sale indeed!

most people/organisations would say you have upuntil tomorrow night i.e. 23:59 on the 14th

However, as we all know, BS aren't the same as most other companies !

You could, as belt and braces phone up and mand make a provisional reservation where you have 24hrs to confirm. In those cases I *think* VS honour the price at the time you called them and not the price when you pay.

You have until 23:59 on the 14th June, *UK time* to COMPLETE the transaction.

So beware.... VS' systems are useless at session control. You really need to be starting the booking process by 23:30 at the latest.

No - that's the standard price these days but in the current sale LAX flights are £1600 this summer and in the last sale (at Christmas for flights in the spring) it was £2300.

So if I were you I'd hold out for another sale much nearer the time. You've got plenty of time, and there's plenty of UC capacity on that route so it's unlikely to sell out or go up in price dramatically (unlike, say, Vegas or Orlando).

Well, I'm impressed with having bagged a £1069 to IAD end of july.

Its my first every trip in Z as a fare paying passenger! Work has always paid in the past!

Now, where's the bar :D
