Just a thought....hasn't this thread wandered away from the purpose described in the title? Lately it's been more about "Seat Allocation" rather than "LGW Refits".

Good point - the lack of seat allocations from the 1st November is nothing to do with the LGW refits, so as this is a sticky about the LGW refits lets try and keep it on that subject so anyone isn't confused when looking for information.

It will be very interesting to see how long the current refit takes, to see whether they have managed to speed up the process a little from the current 6 weeks odd per plane. Back on topic :)

I think many people wondered if the refits were connected to seat allocation being unavailable after 1st november, certainly I was one of them. But also I would like an updated plane when I go next year! And also like to pre assign my own seat. Makes me feel at ease knowing me and my girlfriend are sitting closer in the UC cabin :)

So for many it helps to know both options maybe. :)

Looking at the status updates this morning, looks like G-VLIP is back from HKG 1st Aug with the next 744 flying to HKG the same day.

Hi The status updates show a LHR/HKG swap on 1st August, can this really be no 4 going in, means Hot Lips done in 3 weeks!

Or was it the original scheduled day, that has now been pushed later by delays...

Looking for info.

I recently watched a bbc2 programme on a d check of a ba 747 which took 6 weeks to do. Most impressive it was too.

are virgin also doing a d check during refit, or if not, how in the name of all that is holy can it take 6 weeks to swap out some seats?

Would the IFE replacement mean more work than a D-check as more cabling and servers need to be removed/replaced than the D-check requires?

The IFE installation must be a big task, removing all the old wiring and then completely rewiring the new system in can't be a quick job at all.

Noticed a positioning flight on the status update page for the 1 August - could this be the latest refit finishing then?

If so impressed they have sped up significantly.

Looking at the status Ladybird and Barbarella are both in air speeding away from LGW, so looks like no refit tomorrow for me and the wife. Oh well!

Managed to get two seats in the bubble, though one behind eachother. Hope they can work their magic and seat us together. Otherwise it will be a very quiet flight for me! :P

but both will be back tomorrow in time for your 043, whether they will work that, or another service only tomorrow will tell....

Good point - I didn't think of that. Last day of work was a bit more than hectic B)

I m flying to Havana In Feb2013, i have for the 1st time payed for PE i booked the holiday through Virgin Holidays, i was hoping to be able to get seats upstairs for me and the wife as i thought before previously they reserved the PE upstairs for Virgin holidays customers, is this still the same? Hopefully i will get a a pair of seats when i am able to book as this is a luxury for me travelling in PE for the first time! fingers crossed!

I doubt VH will still offer it as the PE cabin on the upper deck has halved in size on the new config.

Even if VH do still offer this 'extra', you can only request seats on the upper deck at the same time you made the booking and it had to be booked over the phone and not online or via any other means. Book any other way or forget to request the upper deck at the time of booking and you have to use the same VS seat selection system as everyone else.

Ok so i guess it is just a case of hoping i get lucky and can book a decent PE seat when it allows me to do so, i was actually lucky enough to be seated upstairs on my return flight from Saint lucia last year and that was in economy. Hopefully i will have some of this luck still when i eventually get to choose my seat, forgive my ignorance but what is the major difference in the PE upstairs compared to downstairs>?

This is the first time flying PE for me and my wife and i was just hoping for something special to justify the cost of upgrading, which was actually very reasonable, we paid £700 for the two of us for both journeys! Fingers crossed any way!

I hope it doesn't slip back even further, for purely selfish reasons I was hoping all the refits will be completed be 20/11

G-VROM has operated a few flights ex MAN but as you have pointed out, especially recently, MAN hasn't seen a refitted a/c.

The a/c all rotate and it is just a tad unfortunate how the rotations have worked so far, but as more refitted a/c enter the fleet obviously the chance of them working out better when the rotations happen will increase.

Thanks,
Neil
