I was on vs4 back from JFK the other day - first time in the UCDS. I'd heard the window seats were roomier, so was pretty keen to snag one.

I asked at check in (about 2hrs before departure) and was told no window seats available, but to try asking in the clubhouse. So I asked when I got to the clubhouse, and again was told nothing available, but to check again when the flight closed.

So I asked again about 50 minutes before departure, but still no luck.

As a final attempt, once I boarded I mentioned to the cabin crew that I knew the flight was busy, but I'd really like a window seat if there was anything available.

At that point, they said "should be no problem, the flight's pretty quiet today". Sure enough, about 5 minutes later he came back and said "ok everybody's in their seat now, take your pick of the free seats". I looked round and there were about 7 free window seats. Obviously I questioned it, and was told "we've known for a while this was going to be a quiet flight".

I was pretty irritated at this point. My question is, is there anything that could have happened in the 50 minutes before departure that freed up a load of window seats, or was I repeatedly being fed dud information? I'm tall, so was very anxious not to be stuffed into a cramped middle seat when I needed to sleep.

On an unrelated note, I didn't mind the dream suite too much. Couldn't help feeling there was an arm rest missing on the left, but couldn't be sure.

Thanks

Yep the UCDS on the windows are longer.. although don't tell VS we know that :P

As for what could have happened in the 50 mins... anything from people switching flights (the 46 and 10 leave later) and no shows to engineering magically fixing 7 previously broken seats..

I don't think they would deliberately conceal anything from you given the lack of advantage in doing so.. :? :?

Was good that you got your window seat in the end. Have a good flight? 8D

This happened to me last week - seat map showed a nearly full flight at OLCI, checked in at JFK and changed seats, got on board and half empty.

VS IT systems is my suspicion.
