You won't be able to allocate your seats, they will be allocated for you when you check in at the airport. I may be wrong, but believe you can't do OLCI either, but others may know for certain.

I bought an exit row seat for VS10 a couple of weeks ago and was able to do OLCI.

I didn't opt to have my boarding pass issued though, so don't know whether the seat was allocated at that stage or until I physically checked in at JFK.

I certainly couldn't access the seat map to see or change them myself online, but ended up being allocated the exact seat I wanted without asking anyway.

Hi redscouse,

As Neil has said currently you won't be able to allocate your seats yourself. You will however be able to check-in online as normal and then should you wish to see if there are any other extra legroom seats for you to move to you can ask at the bag drop.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi,
Can I just hijack this post and ask a question (newbie so apologies if its been asked many times before!).
I have booked and paid for 3 emergency exit seats (due to really tall hubby and sons). Myself and other 2 children would like to be able to sit behind them. Am I able to secure these seats through 90 days ahead or will we all have to go to the airport and check in personally? Am hoping we can all be seated together.
Thanks, Sarah

I have booked extra leg room and exit rows a few times now and in my experience I have found that they are allocated just before the online check in window opens.
I have managed to change these at the desk to different seats but I suppose that depends on how many of the seats have been pre sold. I think the allocate in order from date booked with the earliest getting the seats near to the front.

I would strongly advise you to call customer services now and ask them to put a note on your booking saying you'd all like to be seated close together, as with exit row bookings you won't be able to access the online seat map and choose seats at T-90 because seats aren't allocated until very close to the flight.

And as many aircraft have multiple exit rows, you won't know which your husband & sons will be in so there's not much point in you choosing seats in advance for yourself.

Calling up won't guarantee you'll all be close together, but a note on your booking should at least give you a reasonable chance when you check in (which you should do as early as possible).

Out of interest do you know which aircraft type you're due to fly on, or if not your flight number?

Because there are two things to beware with exit rows: on some aircraft (including the new A330s) the rows immediately behind them are classed as extra legroom, which you won't be able to have unless you pay extra.

And if you get the exit row seats closest to the doors (A and K seats), they have restricted legroom due to the "bulge" in the door containing the emergency slide. You can still stretch out, but at an angle. To compensate for that, VS normally waive the extra fee if you've also booked the adjacent seats (ie you get 2 for the price of 1 or 3 for the price of 2).

Hi,
Thanks for that info, I will email them this weekend to get them to put a note on. I was hoping/assuming they would sit us all together due to the age of the children and the fact we booked for 6 of us but you can never be sure.
Our flight number is VS015 and I have looked at various sites but cannot fathom out which plane that will be, I have narrowed it down to 2 planes but thats no guarantee.
If they allocate in booking order then I should almost be first on the list as we booked this a year ago :)))
Do you know which aircraft I would be on from my flight number? We fly out from Gatwick South terminal if that helps!

Ok, 90% of the time the VS15 uses a 747 which has 3 exit rows downstairs - 25, 38 and 49, plus row 75 upstairs.

49 is ok but you'll have to pay a bit more for the extra legroom seats behind in row 50.

25 is great IMHO because you'll be served first and literally get off the plane before anyone else.

And lots of people love being in the bubble in which case 75 is great (don't know if that's sold as an exit row though - someone else will!)

I'd avoid 38 though as it's next to the loos.
