Can I just hijack this post and ask a question (newbie so apologies if its been asked many times before!).
I have booked and paid for 3 emergency exit seats (due to really tall hubby and sons). Myself and other 2 children would like to be able to sit behind them. Am I able to secure these seats through 90 days ahead or will we all have to go to the airport and check in personally? Am hoping we can all be seated together.
Thanks, Sarah
I would strongly advise you to call customer services now and ask them to put a note on your booking saying you'd all like to be seated close together, as with exit row bookings you won't be able to access the online seat map and choose seats at T-90 because seats aren't allocated until very close to the flight.
And as many aircraft have multiple exit rows, you won't know which your husband & sons will be in so there's not much point in you choosing seats in advance for yourself.
Calling up won't guarantee you'll all be close together, but a note on your booking should at least give you a reasonable chance when you check in (which you should do as early as possible).
Out of interest do you know which aircraft type you're due to fly on, or if not your flight number?
Because there are two things to beware with exit rows: on some aircraft (including the new A330s) the rows immediately behind them are classed as extra legroom, which you won't be able to have unless you pay extra.
And if you get the exit row seats closest to the doors (A and K seats), they have restricted legroom due to the "bulge" in the door containing the emergency slide. You can still stretch out, but at an angle. To compensate for that, VS normally waive the extra fee if you've also booked the adjacent seats (ie you get 2 for the price of 1 or 3 for the price of 2).
