My thoughts.

Upper - UCDS redesigned to take into account feedback. Still with flatbed (powered). Using same layout as A340/A360
PE - As is. 2-3-2
Eco - As is 2-4-2

Not putting money on it though.

They'll go 3-3-3 in Econ for the 787, I'd put money on that.

I wonder when they will announce the new planes officially? I seem to recall someone here mentioning the due date is September 2014? But the Boeing schedules always seem to become subject to delays

Current plan is SEPT 2014 for the first delivery. With the first few replacing the last 343's. (Meaning an all AVOD fleet by the end of next year) ^)

That would be awesome
I had my first experience of reel this year and not good lol
(I traveled to JFK in '99 and '00 on VS but can't remember if that was REEL)

I'm old enough to remember when VA launched UC with their original strapline that went something like " First Class for a Busines Class fare" ? I believe some VA cabin crew sometimes refer to UC as "First" amongst themselves, as well?

Hi wwings
If the delivery is scheduled for SEPT 2014 when do you think they may announce the configurations? ie. redesigned UCS as many v-flyers are calling for.

With the A333s it was pretty close to EIS ... I'd expect the same.

I hope they don't go with the UCDS, and either revert to old suite or something better (reverse herringbone would be good :P)

You posted this yesterday at 06:48BST?

But yes, not too long ago they used to refer to it as a First Class service at a Business Class price. I'm sure they dropped that for a reason...

Considering my own experience of BA First, Upper Class is nowhere near First class in any sense (OK, maybe the LHR Clubhouse). The seat is cramped, food not up to much, drinks are cheaper, service not as personal (even at it's best) and the price is that of any other Business Class.

I would say though, Upper is a good Business class (when the crew are up to it!)

Just out of interest what is it everyone dislikes so much about the UCDS ? Flew uc on one of the a330s the other day and happened to really like it, compared to the UCS it just seemed like a bit of a refreshment on the old product, yes I did miss the arm rest but really did like the see through/transparent glass between each suite, thought it was quite nice actually!

Surely if vs are planning to make a whole new product for the 787 they would the need to implement the same product on the rest of their fleet to keep up consistancy, including the a330s so this would be a fairly large waste of money that was spent on the 'new' product for the a330s? :)

Well for me it's...

Less width, both when sitting and sleeping
I don't have a pointy head to make use of the whole length of the bed
I have two legs, and like to sleep with both on the bed
The cabin feels very cramp
Less privacy, mainly due to the "windows"
The stupid table that springs towards you, no option to move it back.
Stupid arm rest that easily breaks

I'm sure there are other things I don't like about it that I can't think of right now :-p

There are no plans to introduce the UCDS to the current fleet so there is already a certain degree of inconsistency.

A TV that isn't on top of your food when eating.
A plug that you don't trip over when standing.
A table that is centred on the seat so you don't get back ache when working.
Storage that's actually usable.
Overhead bins for everyone.
Windows at row 9.

I think that would make sense hey.
from reading all the feedback on here from frequent flyers along with Hamster & Slinky et al it seems pretty much 100% that a new UCS is needed but hopefully with some actual input from frequent flyers.

Im pretty sure that VS will do something for the new 787 as it would be a good opportunity to do something new, something innovative and something very Virgin.

Im looking forward to it.

Looks like the first routes will be the US East Coast, before expanding to other routes.

I also read somewhere about VS being the European launch partner for the 787-9.. Is that true?

I wonder when the role out will include Asia and NRT?

Having input and actually using that input are two different things.

thats a good point.
Also if the testing was carried out within a space that exactly replicates the space on a plane?

Not bothered about the seat layout as long it is near a door. Is that smoke I can smell :0 :0

(Tounge in cheek)
My understanding is that the seating layout will be 2-3-2 that's 2 fire extinguishers, 3 sets a further 2 extinguishers......
