Hello everyone, newbie here, very new, but I’ve been reading posts for some years, getting info, help and smiles thank you. Never posted about our own flights, never thought they’d be of interest really.
April Fool’s Day sees not just the T60/T90 change. Have times after that date changed on your usual flights and, crucially, have the 747s vanished? They have on LHR/EWR and I’m gutted.
OH and I fly twice a year LHR/EWR to visit family in New Jersey. We’re spending our own money here, not business flying, so best we can do is P/E which gives himself leg room and panders to my delusions of grandeur. We did once, just once, amass enough airmiles for U/C on the outward leg. LHR CH, Cowshed spa, peace & quiet, endless champers and then life in the wonderful pointy end of the 747, those individual seats, the good food, the champers again, the bar, the peace and quiet of that small, private cabin – this is the life I was made for.
But usually it’s VS1 outward bound in P/E – never had a bad flight. Because we can’t spring for U/C, we don’t come back on that plane with the overnight flight, can't manage to sleep sitting up/reclining (we've tried it), so we fly back daytime in P/E on VS18 on the dreaded Airbus 330. And have NEVER had a good flight, no honestly. We’ve had broken seat arms, broken tray tables, always awful food, last time I had a blanket I’m convinced someone had used as a sick bag, and every time, but every time, the guy in front does full recline for the entire trip. Yes I know he’s entitled to do that. And the aircraft seem to be the oldest in the fleet, looking tired and in need of refurbishment. Cabin crew last time said it’s not a popular flight and they get lots of complaints so it’s not just me.
However, I've been hugging myself with glee because we have amassed enough airmiles with flights and Virgin credit cards to do U/C both ways next time, so we’ll do the 747 overnight back on the flat beds. And LHR CH and EWR CH – yes I know that’s not much more than a fitted wardrobe apparently but I’ll take it even if you won’t!
So we’re canvassing dates with family and looking at May. But hang on, what’s this. The flight times have all changed, so instead of afternoon flight out, it’s 9.45 am which means a very early start and (even for me) less inclination for champers in CH. But worst of all, every flight, no matter what time, out and back, is the appalling Airbus 330.
Only LHR/JFK has 747s and it’s not a realistic option for us – means at least a 2 hour drive through Manhattan instead of 25 minutes from EWR so no contest.
So please shed a tear with me that we have airmiles for U/C and no pointy end on the 747, just the ghastly Airbus 330 with that huge U/C cabin with four across for this time and P/E in an Airbus 330 both ways normally. Pass me the tissues.
