I want to be outside enjoying the trip, not running from one air-con refuge to another, which I think would be the case if we visited August-October.
But i have never visited and my view is based on trip reviews and advice of others.
Having visited Key West 2 weeks today, I can confirm that the humidity there isn't as bad as in Miami and at a similar level to Orlando. I think with the Keys being surrounded by the sea this helps to keep the humidity in check.

I wouldn't worry hiljil. Thunderstorms are to be expected, however it's not like that all day every day. Having just got back from Florida, I've found that most weather forecasts always say thunderstorms but others, such as the Weather Channel, proceed to state what the %age of the thunderstorms occurring are.
My gut feeling is that it won't be as bad as the weather forecasts are making it out to be, so just go with the flow as I'm sure it'll be fine.
