I cannot believe that some woman posted on the VS facebook page before the plane had even landed about what was happening to the flight from LAS tonight and if VS would pay for a hotel !

Selfish beyond words.

If anyone wants a laugh, go to the Mail Online!

The article itself does however give great positive feedback on the crew.

tontybear,
I would like to think that she didn't understand the seriousness of the situation or have the full facts regarding why there was no plane to operate VS44.

So glad to see a positive outcome to this situation. Watched it unfold on Planefinder from the circling over the North Devon coast at lunchtime to the successful landing back at LGW. Mightily relieved that everyone is unhurt and G-VROM will fly another day.
Congratulations on a wonderfully professional performance by everyone involved. To the passengers, I really felt for you all throughout the whole afternoon.

Craig Kreeger has said there'll be a special replacement flight tomorrow.

Database shows Barbarella at Gatwick yesterday all day. Rumour mill says plane was in hangar having 'a similar issue' attended to.....

All credit to the crew - excellent job!

Crass as it may sound given the great job the crew did here, under EU261 they may very well be entitled to €600 per head.

i just heard about this.
firstly so glad it ended well and massive respect to all the crew.
but only one thing i dont understand, if the plane was departing then why would there have been a problem with the landing gear not deploying? if the landing gear is retracted after take off how did they come to realise there was an issue? woukdnt this have happened when the plane was coming in to land?

Nope this really is 'extraordinary circumstances' under the regulation.

That won't stop VS possibly offering something but it will be on their terms so a select flight voucher or miles.

Pilots get a 3 green lights when gear's down and locked, lights out when gear's retracted, and red when the gear position disagrees with the levers position. Upon gear retraction the pilots would have had 1 red light and the rest out, thus they'd have been aware of the problem almost immediately after take off.

If i was on the flight and compo was offered i'd offer a drink (while off duty) to all the crew on board. Sounds fair i think!

It looks like some pax did get compensation:

Ah yes, very true, gumshoe. In general (i.e. aside from the specific nature of this case), does accepting such a goodwill gesture preclude pax from claiming further compensation under EU261?
