I don't really have a problem with Ryan Air itself, You get what you pay for. I have had problems with groups of stag and hen parties effing and jeffing when there are little 'uns close by. No control taken by the CSS and in fact the last time I flew Ryan Air they continued to serve them alcohol even though they are quite obviously completely plastered. Families were complaining and the CC just carried on serving them and joined in with the "banter".

why so snobby about a plane? its no different to a tube or a bus.

I bet you would jump on one if someone was going to pay you a millions when you got off the other side....

just like this guy

I can't speak for the person you question this of, but it's not snobbery for me. I hate flying at the best of times, if I fly it needs to be spacious and in relative good standards without feeling claustrophobic.

And I can categorically say a million pounds would not change my mind.

Then you are the loser in missing out on a lot of fun/good company/enjoyment for the sake of a couple of hours on a plane. v(

Quite honestly, I have never had a bad flight on Ryanair - it does what it says on the tin and gets you from A to B. OK, there have been one or two episodes where the pre-flight bit could have been handled much better and I really hated the one cabin bag rule which meant putting a handbag inside the carry-on case but that has gone. It's not as if it's a transatlantic flight and I've compared it to a bus or train trip of similar length. I've had worse flights on other aircraft, especially US regional flights operated by subsidiaries of the main carriers.

And to get to some destinations, Ryanair is the only choice. 8D

I think HL is right. There is no point comparing budget short-hop flights with long-haul flights on major carriers. Chalk and cheese. I too view short-haul flights as "bus rides".

For this reason I would never buy business seats to Northern Europe destinations- for me it seems a pointless waste of money for such a short flight.

But saying that, I do choose BA, or other national carriers, over budget airlines for my European flights in Y. I flew easy Jet once and it was not a good experience, it put me off for life! I have never flown Ryanair. The corporate image they portray puts me off bigtime. Their history of poor customer service and hidden extra costs, though listed in the small print, annoys me. Charging £80 for printing boarding passes is unreasonable. Charge by all means, but £80? Come on!!

Whether it is "snobish" to berate budget carriers is debatable. Is it snobish to shop in Waitrose rather than Lidl? To read a broadsheet rather than a tabloid? To listen to Radio 4 over Heart FM?

It's a buyers market. Ryanair are leading that market. As are Lidl and The Sun. But choice is good.

I think the problem isn't so much about paying your money and taking your choice, but rather implications made or inferences taken about the people who use services you (the general you, not the particular you) choose to avoid. Thankfully the debate here as moved on from some of the opinions that were expressed on this site a number of years ago about the "types" of people who flew LCC from Luton or Stansted.

And it isn't a level playing field. Would I have preferred to have flown BA when commuting to Edinburgh on weekly basis as I did for a couple of years? Probably yes, as I watched my colleagues pick up miles and status. Was I willing to drive another hour round the M25 to use Heathrow to use BA instead of Stansted to use EasyJet? Definitely no.

I think your outfit is perfect for ryanair.

I would prefer not to fly LCC and actually chose to stay at LHR the night before so we could fly BA rather than drive 20mins to stn to fly easyjet. have flown easyjet before and they were ok except my one and only flight to god forsaken majorca where the pilot had to make an announcement that if the stupid drunken football fans didnt pipe down he would drop them off in portugal lol.
but like everyone says you get what you pay for.

These days there is nothing special about the onboard experience on BA judging by the recent flights I have had with them.

My flight yesterday was exactly like I anticipated...priority boarding to my pre requested seat of choice (6A,B). Onboard I put my Bose on and fell asleep till we were 60 miles from faro!!
All in all it was door to door 4h 40mins...I did break the speed limit on the A22 (motorway ) to get to our house in 50mins!!

When you live in the North and don't have the potential choice of Luton, Stansted, LGW or LHR and therefore which of the many airlines to choose between - using Easyjet and Ryanair is the best option for us.

some years ago we could fly BA from MAN to Venice, Rome, Madrid, Nice etc etc but BA then deserted us . Having taken many short haul flights with both Easyjet and Ryanair I can only be grateful that destinations on offer leaving from MAN and LPL have grown year on year .

I know people enjoy the sport of panning them - but they get us to some fascinating places, at a reasonable cost, their carry on allowances are fair and I do wonder why people find it so difficult to do what is asked in their conditions of purchase.

I have recently purchased seats with Allegiant Air (W coast USA internal flight) and Air Canada (USA to Canada) and I can honestly say their pricing model and 'extra charges' are way more complicated than Easyjet and Ryanair

Have to say I flew Easyjet back from LGW to GIB the other week and it was absolutely fine. I rely on Monarch, who are a pseudo-low-cost carrier basically, to get me back to the UK and I have never in 30-odd flights in a year and a bit ever had a bad experience - flights virtually always on time, no carnage boarding or disembarking, seats are good.

It's just....Ryanair.
