Hi all,

I'm thinking of booking a trip to PHL, with the return leg stopping off at JFK for the afternoon so I can get a full 6 hours or so in the CH. Can't beat the sausage and mash.

Anyway, I've noticed that every JFK-LHR flight on VS metal, is on an A346 (returning 30/12/15). I'm aware that these are some of the older birds in the fleet, and for this trip I'd probably be looking at a Y ticket.

I've never been on a Virgin A346 - has anyone had any recent experiences of the Economy section? Seatguru doesn't paint it in good light and there's constant references to legroom being hampered by the entertainment boxes. Although as Au this probably wouldn't be a big issue as I'd take an extra legroom or exit row seat.

Failing that, I wouldn't be too against taking one of the DL legs, so long as I could use the Clubhouse! Again, if anyone has experiences or opinions on DL coach on long haul, I'm all ears.

Thanks very much :)

Sorry to break it to ya but the sausage and mash wasn't on the menu when I went through a couple of weeks ago.

Every last one?!? I've just checked the date and you are right.... that is peculiar - not that you are right, that the A346 is the only a/c serving JFK that day - usually you have a B747, A333 or an A346 to chose from. Odd... I wonder if it will stick.

In my view VS eco is better service wise than DL. As you are Au and if you have a few miles to burn just ask about upgrades in the CH. They are usually very good at taking care of their FFs if you do want to push into PE or UC.

ISTBC but if you are on a DL flight you will only be able to use the DL SkyClub at JFK - not bad, but no clubhouse. By default I don't believe that you would be permitted to use the JFK CH, you could try talking your way in though... might work

I flew economy on one of these to JNB both ways. Seats 41D and 41G are good as they are in front of the wall on the side of the crew stairs to the rest area so you can recline to your heart's content.

On the way back I had an exit seat - 31K and it was really good as there is no door extending into your foot area and the bulkhead was so far away I couldn't touch it when fully outstretched. I put my small trolley case on the floor in front of me and used it as a foot rest. It was like being in PE! Also, going for the "window" (no window easily accessible) seat you don't get any disturbance from people waiting for the toilet or trollies bashing you when going up and down the aisle.
