Once there, there was only one group in front of us who hadn't pre booked and wanted to pay, but they were informed that it was fully booked. We walked in and it was perfect. Not overcrowded and a couple of empty tables. Food was excellent and the view was great. I'm not the best at flying even though I have flown for years, so it seems to calm me down (that and the vodka!!). My mum has never used the v room before but was very impressed.
We left at the first call and by the time we got there the flight was already boarding. I had booked the exit seats in the bubble and they only found out when we got upstairs. My husband is 6"2 so he was happy - to the extent he fell asleep as we were taxiing and he slept through take off and the firs 1.5 hours of the flight only to be woken up when the food was served. I had the Beef Burgundy which was quite edible and the others had Spanish style chicken. The CC were attentive and fantastic all the way through. My mum is a Virgin Virgin and can now see why I won't fly anyone else if there is a virgin flight on offer. At one point we were all watching The Imitation Game. If you've not seen it, it's worth watching. We all took our headphones off at the end and went wow!!!
The only downside to the flight was the Captain making an announcement to a group of idiots downstairs who were drinking their own alcohol and being abusive to the CC. The captain warned that he would have no hesitation in getting the Mexican police to meet the flight, or diverting to the nearest airport (which we later discovered would be Miami). Then just over 3 hours before landing all alcohol was withdrawn!! Amazing how one group of idiots can spoil it for many. Fair play to the Captain - the tone of the announcement was "I am not messing" and he went down to check the situation as well, whilst ensuring crew and passengers were safe.
Great landing, and I'm so glad I read the reviews about Cancun airport before we left. 2 of our 3 cases were 2nd and 3rd to last coming off, and there were 3 U.S. flights on the same conveyor belt so by the time we got to the "funnel" for customs it was a long wait.
The return flight wa s a different story so I'll try and get that TR posted today.
Thanks for your patience reading this.
