The other great thing about booking via Expedia is that you still get your quadruple miles (paying on black Amex) or double miles (white Amex) as it's Virgin Atlantic who bill you for the ticket, not Expedia. Only the admin/booking fee is billed by Expedia (£10 pp)...and no credit card fees! So full miles and zero card fee :)

You can also get quidco cashback on Expedia as well.

Not sure if miles away shopping portal is available for expedia or not?

Never had a problem with an expedia booking appearing in either by VA/BA/DL accounts to select seats etc etc either.

Do people use expedia.co.uk or expedia.ie for the ex-DUB bookings?

.ie seems to be cheaper and show different flights:

Your quite right about using Expedia Ireland website. I would save around £50 - £70, but I would want to use Amex or gold and I don't think the offer free exchange for currency. Need to workout what the charge would be. But still think I would save using IE. Thanks for the tip !!!

Not ex-DUB but we recently booked an ex-Norway One World Business Class fare to Australia which for 2 people cost approx the same as the fare for 1 person departing ex-LHR.

i am trying to book DUB - SFO and then LAS - DUB, but on previous occasions have used AMS. As that's always been a good price, but DUB comes in around £1250, which is great for next July. But I always try to get the return leg to MAN, but having no joy with Expedia. Is there a way to specify to go DUB via MAN on the return leg ?

Just homing in on another saving and have just noticed that through shops away, expedia give 1 mile per £1 for flights only (Doh !!)

It states that miles are awarded after your flight (singular) is taken.

So my question is,

1. has anybody claimed miles when booking an Ex-Dub flight ?

and

2. If you have are miles awarded after the last segment - IE do you have to take the final flight before they are awarded ?

many thanks

David

(or I suppose like me, 3. has nobody else noticed this )

I very much doubt that they'd care about the final segment. It's just like topcashback, they absolutely no interest in the details, just offer a miles commission.

I booked an ex-DUB flight through Expedia on the 14th August, travelling 1st through 8th of November.

The miles on shops away tracked within a couple of days and were paid into my FC account on 2nd October - so long before I fly in fact.

I'm doing the same 7am flight in a few weeks time to catch the VS43 as part of my ex-DUB trip - will let you know how I get on :)

So, I caught the 7am flight this morning. We were warned of possible delays due to the fog at Gatwick, however we landed on time and I was sat eating breakfast by 9.

Next stop, Vegas!

So I told my daughter about the Ex DUB and now I am starting to wish I hadn't.

Shes going out to MAN-DUB on RyanAir Tuesday 18.10 with overnight hotel stay.
Wednesday she is on EI162 at12.05 with lots of time from its13.30 arrival at LHR to connect to her VS011 at 16.45.
Until the Fog!
Just checked Sundays EI162 flight and it arrived at LHR at 19.40......a six hour delay.

Todays flight was due to belatedly depart Dublin at 13.30, but currently its 14.00 departure with arrival at 15.07 which when you add 75 minutes minimum transfer time between terminals at LHR its 'just too late' for VS011.

Question is, with fog forecast to continue in this week should she even go to Dublin on Tuesday?
I know that travel on the first leg of the DUB-LHR-BOS ticket has to be made to comply with the fare conditions but is there a case for making her way directly from Manchester to Heathrow on Wednesday in these circumstances?

If she had been on Sundays flights what would the VS have done with her at LHR? Ovenight in a hotel and booked her on a (earlier?) Monday Boston flight.
I am hoping this sort of thing has happened to one of you and you will be very reassuring?

As long as your daughter is at DUB, she's protected if the EI162 is late and misses the connection at LHR, and would be put on the next available flight to BOS. That's the safest option, even if it means the potential hassle of an overnight delay in London (for which she'd be entitled to a hotel and food).

If she doesn't make the EI162 she's not protected and VS has no obligation to let her board the VS11. It's entirely possible that she'd be allowed but to the best of my knowledge no V-Flyer has yet tested VS's response to missing the first leg of an ex-EU on another carrier, so it's uncharted waters.

I do wonder if the extraordinary circumstances because of this weirdly widespread and persistent fog might make the first leg at least something which they'll attempt to be flexible with...

The time they refused me on Vegas flight cos I didn't have a machine readable passport, and I had to go and get a new one from the home office, they didn't blink when booking me on the flight next day. Of course this was economy but the point being, they're perhaps not as stubborn with the likes of this sort of fog...

It was ~£4.4k for the below itinerary, all in business except for the legs to/from Hamilton Island (HTI):

SVG-LHR-HKG-CNS-HTI
HTI-BNE
SYD-PER
PER-HKG-LHR-(break)-OSL

Is there a trick to getting Virgin as an option when trying to book through Expedia. Trying to book DUB - LHR - IAD and then IAD - LHR - DUB and google flights is quoting me a very reasonable £3220 but when I called Virgin, they quoted me £12,818!!!

They said they couldn't get it any lower. So now trying Expedia but struggling to get VA as a carrier - any help. Please?
thanks

You can select VS as a preferred airline under the additional options when you input your flight details on the first page. Then it will only bring up flights that include a leg on Virgin.

I did an Ex-DUB this summer and it was fab - I actually took all of the flights and visited friends in Dublin on the way home, but want to take advantage again next summer and am struggling to get anything to recreate flights I've found on ITA. While I know there's inventory caching etc at play and the exact flights aren't always available just because you can see them for that price on ITA, it's the combinations that are tripping me up. ITA has given me this itinerary for £1,217.77:

O/B
Dublin (DUB) to London (LHR) — Mon, Jul 18
British Airways 831, Dep: 7:45 am - Arr: 9:05 am Business (I)

London (LHR) to Los Angeles (LAX) — Mon, Jul 18
Virgin Atlantic 23, Dep: 1:05 pm - Arr: 4:35 pm Business (Z)

Return
Los Angeles (LAX) to London (LHR) — Thu, Jul 28
Virgin Atlantic 8, Dep: 5:50 pm - Arr: 12:20 pm Business (Z)

London (LHR) to Dublin (DUB) — Sat, Jul 30
British Airways 828, Dep: 9:35 am - Arr: 10:55 am Business (I)

Expedia is giving me nothing close to the price, but using Hipmunk I've managed to get it within £50 or so which then goes off to Expedia to book. However if I search it as a straight return, I'm able to select the outbound flights I want (actually an Aer Lingus flight out of Dublin but arrives at the same time as the BA so it'll do!) but can't push my final flight back to Dublin into Saturday to guarantee I can collect my bags. If I do it as multi-city, it will only give me an outbound flight with around a 2 hour connection at Heathrow which obviously isn't anywhere near enough time in the CH ;)

Is there a reason why searching round trip vs multi-city would give me different availability outbound?
