I saw a £3.7k fare in J with BA on your dates on google flights

There was a £6k+ F with Eithad but that wasn't via LHR but DUB-DXB

Look at otther starting points like HEL which has previously been good for flights to OZ.

Google flights is showing a better deal from Helsinki with Qatar (Raffles / HFP has mentioned Qatar sale fares from Helsinki) than I can find from DUB. Currently coming in at £4602 (€5539) booked via Qatar, going HEL - DOH on an A320 (which Raffles says should have flat bed, in J) and then DOH - SYD on an A380 in F.

It is always alive in some form, but not always the same city as start and destination. There are flash sales. Sometimes ex-dub ones are not in the sales. The euro's strength against the pound has made the usual non sale 1.3K to Honolulu fare be around 1.5K at the moment.

It also doesn't cover all periods, particular periods covered are usually Easter, Summer Holidays, Christmas and November. So you'll struggle to find one in October normally.

It doesn't always work. I live in Ireland and often find that ex-AMS works for me better than ex-DUB or ex-ORK.

Over the Christmas / New Year period is a high demand time of year as well for booking flights and it seems to be getting more and more popular each year too so availability may well be having an impact on fare prices.

Well, yes and no. The thing about these fares is that they are usually:

1) Business class
2) At peak time holiday wise (Easter, Christmas, Half term)

The reason why is that people are flying economy at that time because its holidays. And nobody is flying business. So the trick is choose to fly business at that point. Some, like the hawaii runs, I doubt you'd get Economy for less money...

You are quite right. There are loads of availability with BA in business for £1025 return for all legs.

Decent price.

I'm a very happy chap right now - just paid £1264 pp for VS Upper Class return to LAS via Expedia. No card fee and still billed by VS so still get the quadruple miles on black MBNA!

The identical flight /dates non ex DUB is £3053. Amazingly this fare is cheaper than flying economy on the identical flight which right now is £1303! This is at a peak travel period of year - start of UK school summer holidays!

Will simply do a day before hop to DUB and back before sampling the brand new VS North Terminal Gatwick Clubhouse & getting the VS43. Couldn't get Expedia to offer a final leg ex LHR to DUB (so as to force baggage short check to LAS-LGW) but used multi city option to select Cork as final destination and up popped LHR - perfect!

You have my admiration - not only for your stamina in getting such a deal through Expedia, but also your courage for doing an Ex EU Route.

Would be as scared as anything that the flights would be cancelled and I would miss a connection. I once travelled with friends who were coming back from France who were stranded due to French strikes.

Have a super time and an exrrea well done for getting so many VS points in the process :-D

Thing to remember is that the risk is only on the positioning flight, I always ensure there's another flight available should it be cancelled. Once at the EU start point you're fully protected, as the through ticket is in force. For me it boils down to hard cash, for the two of us we're saving nearly £3500!

Expedia now seems to have lost the ability to search by time band - when you did a Multi Stop booking on the left hand side you used to be able to manipulate each flight flight time as part of your refining process, but now you can't, it seems a lot more difficult to get the exact itinerary you want!

You might have to try other dates for your outbound LGW-MCO if you want VS UC as no seats available on VS027 that day on their own website, only EC and PE, and only 2 seats seem to be left in UC on VS015 .... maybe if you post a new topic someone could do a load check for you around the dates you want?

That, and the fact you're going in the middle of the school summer holidays when demand for MCO is through the roof.

BA on the dates you want is coming in at £2176 ex-DUB via LGW so that's roughly the minimum sort of price you're looking at if you can find it.

Might be worth checking MAN - it's easy enough to get there from DUB.

Or consider connecting via ATL - that'll probably be an A333 with a bigger UC cabin yet less demand in August as it's more of a business route.

Sealink wrote:I can never find ex EU with Virgin. BA yes but never VS

The trick I use is look on the VS site for flights around the time you want with lots of availability, then check out expedia from the various ex eu departure points.

It kinda cuts down on the searching a little

Its a pity sites like expedia didn't allow you to search over a range of dates instead of showing you the results for just one date.
