It doesn't always work. I live in Ireland and often find that ex-AMS works for me better than ex-DUB or ex-ORK.

The identical flight /dates non ex DUB is £3053. Amazingly this fare is cheaper than flying economy on the identical flight which right now is £1303! This is at a peak travel period of year - start of UK school summer holidays!
Will simply do a day before hop to DUB and back before sampling the brand new VS North Terminal Gatwick Clubhouse & getting the VS43. Couldn't get Expedia to offer a final leg ex LHR to DUB (so as to force baggage short check to LAS-LGW) but used multi city option to select Cork as final destination and up popped LHR - perfect!
