If either VS or the MCO airport authorities thought it was unsafe for the flight to land and then take off then it would have either been cancelled or diverted.

On the flip side, there will be people booked on the return sector who are probably glad to be leaving just as Hurricane Matthew hits the area rather than be delayed for 48hrs+ and contend with hundreds of others whose flights were cancelled. Thomas Cook are also operating today I see.

Because the hurricane is still well to the SE of MCO on Thursday, it's Friday when people should be more concerned although hurricane force winds are highly unlikely in Orlando, but are possible along the coast. If the airport authorities disagreed with VS, they'd certainly let them know as well.
The MCO departures board shows many flights cancelled - most probably due to advanced planning so that aircraft are not in the wrong location or even on the ground if the hurricane does approach, but still many operating until late in the evening:
closely followed by another one advising delay until Sunday.
